Georgy Milanov is a Bulgarian football player, midfielder who currently plays for CSKA and the Bulgarian national team. Born in the city of Levski (Pleven). Milanov began playing football at a local club, after which he entered the Litex Academy with his twin brother Elijah. In 2005, he was part of a group of young players in the club that led the club to victory in the Bulgarian U-17 championship.
Litex
Since August 1, 2009, Milanov first hit the foundation at the age of 17 years, 152 days, when the coach started him from the bench in the Bulgarian Super Cup against Levski, which ended in defeat (the team of George lost 0-1). A week later, he already left for the first time in the Bulgarian championship in a match against Lokomotiv from Mezdra, scoring his first goal right away (the team won 5-0). On December 3, he scored his first goal in the Cup when Litex defeated Pirin 4-0. George Milanov, whose career went uphill, immediately began to play regularly in his first season, having spent 31 matches in all competitions and received a champion medal at the end of the season.
He completed his second season with an indicator of 5 goals in 36 matches of both the Championship and the Cup. Milanov helped Litex defend their title, although many did not expect this from the club. In the 2011-12 season, Georgy Milanov scored 6 goals in 25 matches. In the same season, the player became the best rookie of the season in Bulgaria.
On August 19, 2012, Milanov scored the first goal in the 2012-13 season in the away match with the same Lokomotiv from Plovdiv, which ended in a draw. October 27, he designed the first hat-trick. He took place at the gates of "Montana" (the team won 3-1, and Georgy scored his first goal from the penalty spot, and the other two from free-kicks). In 2012, he became the best Bulgarian football player. March 30, 2013 George Milanov put on a captain's armband, becoming one of the youngest captains of the club. On April 14th, his 100th match for Litex was held.
CSKA
On July 5, 2013, Georgy Milanov was in Russia, having the opportunity to prove himself in the Premier League as part of CSKA. The agreement was designed for a five-year deal. The footballer was acquired for an initial amount of 5.4 million leva, and another 2 million depended on the player’s performances in UEFA tournaments in the next two years for CSKA. George took 23 numbers in the club.
The official debut took place on August 18, 2013 with the Krasnodar "Kuban", which ended with a score of 1-0. Replaced by the Bulgarian Keisuke Honda, who later moved to the Italian “Milan”. Despite this, the midfielder had problems at first, then his level began to improve rapidly. According to the head coach of the “army” Leonid Slutsky, thanks to the hard work and hard work Georgy Milanov (photo below - the match against “Spartak”) received a guaranteed place at the base of the Moscow club.
The midfielder held his first goal for CSKA against the Zenit St. Petersburg on March 16, 2014 with a strong “shot” from a long distance because of a penalty, which in the end became CSKA winning, being the only goal scored in the whole match. The efforts of George did not go unnoticed: at first the footballer became the best player in the 21st round of the Premier League, then he began to fall more and more often into symbolic national teams of rounds.
Grasshopper
After the injury received in 2015, the Bulgarian was hard to recover. The player did not receive the necessary playing time because of his uniform, therefore, on February 16, 2016, CSKA announced that Milanov was going to the Swiss Super League club Grasshopper before the end of the season on loan, where he showed himself quite well, having played all the remaining 11 matches in the League and giving 2 assists.
In Raiffeisen Super League, George looked very good, having received enough playing practice. However, the football player himself noted that the Swiss championship in class is significantly inferior to the Premier League.
Return to CSKA
After playing for six months at Grasshopper, the footballer returned to the location of CSKA, with which he underwent pre-season training. According to the football player himself, CSKA has become his home, and he is accustomed to feel more serious loads and competition than in a Swiss club.
Upon returning from lease after a test match with the Tula “Arsenal” in July 2016, the head coach of the “army” said that George looked very good and, if he continues in the same vein, will be able to play the next season at the base.
Career Team
Milanov was called up to the Bulgarian national team until age 21 for the first time in February 2010. He played the first match against the national team of Montenegro, which ended with the defeat of the Bulgarians with a score of 0-2.
George Milanov was called up to the main team of Bulgaria for the first time in September 2011. His real international debut took place in a friendly match against the Ukrainian national team at the Dynamo stadium named after Valery Lobanovsky on October 7. The footballer played 24 minutes after a substitution. Bulgaria lost this match with the score 0-3. In 2012, the goal against Italy in the World Cup qualification was his first in the national team (the match ended with the score 2-2). In 2015, in a friendly match with the same Italian team, the best player in the Bulgarian national team was Georgi Milanov, who scored an assist.
A family
George Milanov has a twin brother, Elijah, who plays for the Beroe football club. Together with him, George made his first steps in football, and also ended up at the Litex Academy, where they became professional footballers. At an early stage in his career, Elijah had offers from Sparta (Plodviv), Levski, CSKA (Sofia), but the parents of the players were against Ilya moving to other clubs. Together with Litex, the twin brothers Milanov became two-time champions of Bulgaria and the owners of the Bulgarian Super Cup. In 2016, the defender moved from Litex to Beroe.
