Decorative bramah meat chickens

If at least once in your life you have identified Brama chickens, then you are unlikely to have doubts that this is a decorative breed. But not many housewives and farmers would agree to breed them only due to their peculiar appearance.

Hens of Brama breed are usually grown for slaughter, because the mass of cocks on average is at least 3.5 kg, and chickens - at least 3 kg. The weight of females can reach 5 kg, and among males there are larger specimens that reach 7 kg. But at the same time they are not much worse than other poultry eggs.

The Brama breed hens got their name thanks to the Indian river Brahmaputra, from the port of which their great-grandfathers were brought to the United States. It is in this country that they are most seriously concerned with issues of their selection, crossing various subspecies of birds. This chicken was bred there in the form in which it is found with us.

Many believe that breeders crossed 2 species of bird so that hens of the Brama breed - kokhinkhin and Malay came out. The result was a subspecies with a large body, dense plumage, long back and shaggy legs. At the same time, its representatives are quite mobile and productive. When creating favorable conditions, up to 150 eggs can be obtained from laying hens per year. Each of them is covered with a dense brown shell, and their weight ranges from 55 to 65 grams.

More and more farmers are now paying attention to these birds. Chickens of the Brama breed are unpretentious, they do not need constant long walks, moreover, they can even be carried in the winter. By the way, this process begins in birds at 8 or 9 months, so the first eggs from young animals are received in the cold season. It is worth noting that many people like to talk about the aggressiveness of roosters of this breed. But the struggle for supremacy in the chicken coop is characteristic of all representatives of birds. The farmer should simply make sure that only one leader remains in his farm, but special attention must be paid to his choice.

If you want to breed this bird, then first of all choose a rooster. It should have a large body and plentiful fluffy plumage. But the head of the thoroughbred representative will be small, with a poorly developed occipital part and a wide forehead. Unlike other breeds, the crest of roosters of Brama is poorly developed, it is quite small. But his neck is very strong, it is beautifully arched. The tail is small, but it is beautifully fluffy.

Even if you are not buying adult birds, but simply laying eggs, look at those representatives of the species from which they were obtained. This is the only way you can understand what the hens of the Brama breed are: photos cannot convey their size, splendor of plumage and serious appearance.

By the way, not all farmers like to talk about the profitability of their maintenance. But taking into account that few people are currently breeding this bird, not only their large carcasses, but also eggs are in demand: they will be purchased both for food and for breeding.

Before buying chicks or eggs, keep in mind that hens of the Brama breed differ not only in color. Despite the fact that we mainly have the American meat subspecies, we also have Asian decorative meat and European decorative chickens. In farms, it is advisable to breed only the first: the rest are used, as a rule, as a natural decoration of rich estates and estates.
