Any person who visits the muse of poetry and composes poetry in the 21st century, especially if he is inclined to see something more than senseless fun in it, the question arises over time: what should modern poetry be in order to defend its right to exist and don't look stupid in the age of technocracy?
Philology considers this type of creativity as the art of creating an artistic image in the structure of melodically and rhythmically organized speech, which gives the text a certain ability to suggestive and emotional impact on the listener or reader. But what value, besides museum, can this elegant literature represent for a modern cultural space filled with 3D-graphics and information technologies? Of course, we are primarily concerned about modern poetry - Russian and foreign, which, thanks to the existence of an excellent school of translation, reflects the entire poetic space of mankind.
With a quick look at the shelves of bookstores and the relevant sites covering the state of affairs on the Web, one can believe that modern poetry is not only published on the Internet, but also published on paper. But the reader, like the muse of poetry, will be disappointed immediately after a selective acquaintance with texts filled with banal tongue-tied tongues, evoking a longing unpoetic and timeless.
The reader's view of modern poetry
Often, one may encounter the fact that the one who declared the insolvency of modern poetry is told: โWhat are you! This one writes perfectly! Keep the link - read it! โ But there appears the work of one of the many โelvesโ, who does not know how to rhyme, but claims to be regularly visited by the muse of lyric poetry and dictates the masterpieces of poetic thought.
But the whole catastrophic nature of the situation in which poetry finds itself today becomes clear much later when it turns out that readers have no idea about the existence of truly interesting and original poets from those living today, but not at all because they do not exist. The muse of poetry still visits people - and there are really great creators, but few readers can recall at least one text in which at least at a decent level, would rethink what happened after the collapse of the Soviet Union and what is happening now. One gets the impression that the worldview of a modern person is quite capable of displaying humorous couplets, advertising slogans and pop songs filled with uncomplicated everyday life and vulgarity.
Modern poetry and realities
A thinking person understands well that the post-Soviet space has been in the hands of cynical temporary workers for the third decade, who, regardless of their ideological convictions, consider strengthening the foundations of national self-awareness unnecessary and even harmful. But poetry, like all other arts, belongs to these very foundations, along with fundamental science and education. The muse of poetry and scientific thought are complementary: the first helps the second to gain the power of persuasion and the intelligibility of the wording, thus turning into knowledge. Being an integral part of knowledge that can reveal the true essence of things, the poetic word also has high mobilization activity: history knows many cases when a poem or song became a companion of popular outrage or other social process.
Thus, the development of poetry is necessary in the same way as the development of science. First of all, it is required for a leader who is going to lead into a brighter future, but is completely contraindicated for temporary workers. Unfortunately, the modern poet is demoted from the key hierarchs of knowledge to farce magicians, whom the muse of love poetry sometimes visits, but nothing more. I would like to believe that modern self-awareness will soon acutely feel the lack of a poetic word, and this art will be rehabilitated.
