What internet speed is considered good

Sometimes amateur users, acquiring their first (and not only the first, because technology and devices change and improve over time) computer, laptop, tablet or mobile phone, become stumped, trying to solve several issues for themselves. The most pressing questions are whether the Internet is needed on this device at all, what type of connection is better to choose from the ones available on the market, and what Internet speed is considered good. Well, we will try to briefly deal with these pressing problems of our time and give useful advice and recommendations.

Internet speed for computer and laptop
Take the case that occurs most often - the acquisition of a new stationary computer or laptop. In this situation, the solutions to the problem of connecting to the World Wide Web are the most. Here are just the main ones: a local area network, fiber optic, ADSL connection of a local landline telephone operator, wireless connection through a mobile operator’s network.

The ADSL standard is good in cases where the user has a landline telephone, and other methods of wired connection are either too expensive or not feasible at all. The speed of such a connection can vary from a fairly slow 512 kbit / s to the maximum possible 24 Mbit / s. The answer to the question of what Internet speed is considered good depends on the individual needs of a particular user, but even a minimum of 512 kbps is enough for voice chat or for leisurely downloading movies, and this is already a lot.

The highest connection speed is provided by local networks and fiber optic connection. Depending on the provider, the speed of the Internet can vary from 5 to 1000 Mbps. In most cases, a speed above 80-100 Mbps is already excessive and serves, rather, to create a positive image of the provider, and not to satisfy the urgent needs of customers.

Internet speed for mobile phone

But the question is which Internet is better for the phone, as a rule, is not worth it. And all because there are only two options for connecting to the Internet from a phone (or smartphone): GSM-connection or 3G. Moreover, if now supporting third-generation networks in phones priced at more than $ 80 is the norm, then you cannot be 100% sure about the old but beloved Nokia (Samsung or another model). Of course, if a particular model supports 3G, it is most likely to use this particular standard because it is both high speed (up to 3.6 Mbps versus 474 Kbps for the most β€œadvanced” GSM option - EDGE), and the possibility of simultaneous conversation and data exchange (in GSM networks, data transfer is interrupted during a phone call). Of the minuses of using the new communication standard, it should be noted, firstly, the heavy load on the battery and, secondly, not the widest 3G coverage area.

It should be borne in mind that after the user determines the communication standard that he will use to connect the phone to the global network, you need to determine the operator. As a rule, friends (neighbors or colleagues) who have already connected to such services can provide invaluable assistance at this stage. And first of all, it is important to find out what Internet speed is considered good for different operators in the place where they are supposed to be most often (at home, at work, on the way between these two points, etc.).

Internet speed for tablet

And finally, the intermediate segment between computers and smartphones is occupied by the youngest segment of electronics - tablet computers (or vernacularly tablets). To determine which Internet is better for a tablet, you need to clearly understand what Internet speed is considered good for certain tasks. It is one thing when a user needs to check his email a couple of times a day, but at the same time he can be in any part of his native (or non-native) city. It is completely different if a person basically sits at home, where he has his own Wi-Fi access point, and periodically watches YouTube videos on his tablet. In the first case, a tablet with support for mobile networks will be needed, and in the second, Wi-Fi, which has already become familiar, is enough. And if Wi-Fi is in all tablets, then this cannot be said about 3G / GSM, and such a gadget costs $ 30-50 more expensive than its less "fancy" counterparts.
