One of the most universal types of high-quality metal rolling is a strip. This is a narrow metal strip used in the manufacture of cutting tools, springs, metal profiles and structures of various kinds. Today, in the construction industry, a large proportion of the work is carried out using metal structures, which are made using steel and galvanized tape.
What is a strip?
Translated from English, the term "strip" means "tape" or "strip". If we move from book formulations to reality, then the meaning of the word exactly corresponds to the appearance of the workpiece. The strip is a narrow, steel strip that is actively used in the manufacturing processes of manufacturing metal products for various purposes. The raw material for the production of the strip is most often special sheets of cold steel or thin metal sheets wound on a rigid shaft.
What are they made of?
Steel strips of different widths are produced on rolling mills by hot rolling. As raw materials, carbon steel strip of standard quality and alloy steel strip are used. Metal steel must comply with GOST. It is produced with increased accuracy, ranging in size from 3 to 10 meters. Subsequently, steel strips are used as a blank for the production of welded pipes. Metal strips are part of long products and comply with the standard (GOST 535-88). After rolling on the slitting lines, the strip is wound up again into a roll and in this form is used as raw materials and blanks in other production processes:
- in the woodworking industry ;
- in stamping technologies;
- for packaging operations during transportation of finished products;
- during the installation of plastic windows, drywall structures.
Galvanized tape
Galvanized strip is also available in sheets and rolls. It is indicated by the basic marking OTs and corresponds to GOST 14918-80. In turn, it is divided into four groups. The first group includes galvanized strips designed for cold stamping. To the second group - going for coloring. The third group includes galvanized coils and sheets intended for cold production. The fourth group includes rolls and general purpose sheets.
Galvanized steel has both one-sided and two-sided protective zinc, polymer coating. It is successfully used in the automotive industry and the construction of various industrial and civil facilities.
Production requirements
A steel strip is made by cutting or chopping cold steel and galvanized steel coils into separate longitudinal lines. The initial blank for slitting must meet the following parameters:
No. p / p | Name of indicator | Units winters | The size |
1 | Roll weight | t | 10 |
2 | Roll width | mm | 1250 |
3 | Inner diameter | mm | 550-600 |
4 | Outer diameter | mm | 1500 |
Pros of using a strip
The galvanized strip is easy to maintain. It makes it possible to efficiently and quickly carry out the operation of packaging finished products using both manual and automated packaging machines.
It lays on the packaged product with the entire working surface, which makes it possible not to leave dents on the finished product.
The strip does not rust. It is effectively protected against corrosion.
By strength, the strip is that steel tape that surpasses similar substitutes. For example, it has increased stability under various shock loads with piercing objects.
Packaging of finished products with a strip tape gives a more aesthetic appearance, which cannot be said about other similar means.
Main technical and economic indicators
No. p / p | Name of indicator | Units rev. | The size |
1 | Tape thickness | mm | 0.45-2.0 |
2 | Width | mm | 0.25-1250 |
3 | Type of paint coating | - | Plastisol, polyester, prism |
The main areas of application of steel tape
A lot of good can be said about the strip. This narrow steel product is in demand in various sectors of the economy. Firstly, it is successfully used to create structures from a metal profile. Secondly, with the help of a strip, electric-welded pipes, low tides, drainage and drainage systems of any configuration are formed. Thirdly, many manufacturing firms use metal strips to produce wire and various stamped products.
Fourth, if it is necessary to organize the transportation of goods over a long distance with the conditions of better protection against force majeure, then there is no more reliable material than a strip. This is a steel format, which is in demand today in metallurgy, cable production, construction and repair work, while creating communication systems of various directions.
