People do not like ignorance. It doesn’t matter what kind of competency it is: professional, communicative or emotional. Everyone wants to possess it. Each person strives to become successful and knowledgeable, to make life easier, to make it easier to achieve goals.
It is not fashionable to be incompetent
Incompetence is ignorance, lack of knowledge in any field. If the conductor does not know which pills to take with the disease - this is not scary. It is terrible when the doctor, when diagnosing the patient, is mistaken. In other words, incompetence is dangerous.
People are annoyed by incompetent people because you cannot rely on them. Usually it’s difficult to talk normally with them - they don’t know how to listen. They are also distinguished by an inability to appreciate the well-developed skills of true professionals in their field. After all, an illiterate person cannot understand what a competent person writes to him. Nobody wants to be ignorant, so where do they come from?
Reasons for incompetence
A person sees a lack of knowledge only when he develops. Having mastered the rules of the English language, he realizes how incorrectly he spoke before that. However, a common feature of incompetent people is that they do not see the need for development.
People tend to evaluate their abilities higher than that of a statistically average person, and consider themselves more talented than most. For example, there are students who, getting a bad mark for verification work, are angry because they believe that they clearly wrote it well. This is incompetence, which is called unconscious, that is, when a person searches for the causes of failure in the outside world, not noticing his ignorance.
Talented people are just the most modest. And those who know enough to realize their incompetence, think that they are far from a knowledgeable person.
Many students in the school had a completely incomprehensible subject for them. In this case, you need to go for a consultation. On it, the teacher asks: "What exactly do you not understand?" Most children answer this question with the words “I don’t know” or “Everything”. This is a conscious incompetence when a person can develop.
How not to replenish the number of ignoramuses
There are some tips that you can use to avoid unknowingly incompetent:
- It is always worth remembering that there is no milestone for development.
- By observing, one can learn a lot, thus destroying one’s ignorance. A child, seeing how his mother cooks, can do this surprisingly easily with age.
- Training. Reading, listening to some information, it is worth filtering. You should constantly ask yourself questions in the spirit: “What proves that this is true?”, “Why am I sure of this?”.
- Practice. Without practice, a skill does not develop - it is a fact.
Therefore, the main advice: in order not to die incompetent, it is necessary to develop (read, observe, improve skills). There is no middle ground between “developing” and “degrading”. If a person does not develop, then he is degrading.
