Manuel Enrique Tavares Fernandes is a soccer player from Portugal. Now playing for the Moscow “Locomotive”, in the past he played for the Portuguese national team.
Career
Manuel Fernandes was born on February 5, 1986 in Portugal, on the outskirts of Lisbon (the town of Amadore). Manuel received his initial football skills in the yards around the house. As a child, Fernandes often played with his friend Nani, who also later became a famous football player.
Benfica
The first professional club in the football career of Fernandes was the Lisbon “Benfica”. Starting to study at the club’s academy, the player very soon grew to the main team. Already in the second game for “Benfica”, the Portuguese was able to hammer his first goal, becoming the youngest scorer in the history of the team. Manuel Fernandes began the next season, securing a place in the main team. In the same year, “eagles” with the help of Fernandes were able to win the Portuguese championship for the first time in eleven seasons. The player was also able to play in the UEFA Cup, where he appeared on the field in all seven games and flew out of the cup with the team from Moscow CSKA. In the next season (2004/05) Manuel Fernandes appeared on the field quite rarely due to inguinal hernia. He happened to undergo the operation, which was carried out in one of the hospitals in Munich. In the same season, the Portuguese managed to score for the first time in the Champions League team of the Spanish championship (“Villarreal”).
"Portsmouth"
The next step in the career of Fernandes was the English “Portsmouth”. He went to him on loan in 2006. Manuel did not have a season in England, and he was able to score only a few goals. Soon, the player returned to Benfica, where he extended the contract for a few more seasons. The club’s management explained the rare appearance in Portsmouth with a lease. According to him, if Fernandes appears on the field three times in a row, the “pump” had to redeem the player and pay the “eagles” about twelve million pounds.
Everton
Returning to his native club, the Portuguese football player stayed there for about a month and was again leased. This time he went to the English Everton. This season Fernandes spent much better. In February, he scored his first goal, and at the end of April he scored at the gates of the favorite of the competition - Manchester United team. At the end of the season, the team was satisfied with Manuel’s game and wanted to buy it from Benfica, but could not pay twelve million pounds and the player returned to Portugal. Soon, Everton offered the Eagles six million, but was refused.
Valencia
Not reaching an agreement with the English Everton, the player was sold for eighteen million euros to the Spanish “Valencia”. For the club, the player managed to play in seven matches, and was sent on loan to Everton. The rental provided for the possibility of redemption, but the player played out before the end of the season and returned to Valencia. Soon, the player was able to distinguish himself for the first time in a Spanish club, but in the same season he was seriously injured - a fracture of the tibia - and missed many games of the season and its end.
Besiktas
At the beginning of the 2010/11 season, Fernandes was sent on loan to the Turkish Besiktas. The terms of the contract provided for the right to redeem the player from “Valencia”. As a result, a full-fledged contract was signed with the team, and the player confidently joined the club. With Besiktas Fernandes was able to win the Turkish Cup and spent 112 games with the team, scoring thirty goals.
Locomotive
In the summer of 2014, Fernandes Manuel, Lokomotiv and the leadership of Besiktas agreed to transfer the player to the capital's club. The first goal was not long to wait - the Portuguese scored Tula “Arsenal” in the framework of the Russian championship. As part of the “locomotives” Fernandes has already spent more than forty matches and scored seven goals.
Portugal Career
In the summer of 2007, Manuel Fernandes with the Portuguese national team took part in the games of the European Championship among youth. The team worthily performed in the competition and got the opportunity to participate in the Olympics, namely in a football tournament. Fernandes himself participated in all the games and was able to distinguish himself once in a goal against the team from Israel.
Manuel received his first challenge to the first national team in February 2005. The footballer scored his first goal for the national team in March in a friendly game with Canada. The first official match for Portugal was played by Fernandes against the Armenian team in 2007.
Manuel Fernandes has great patience and fortitude. In the game against the Getafe football club, the football player suffered damage (a crack in the dice) at the very beginning of the match, but was able to finish the game until the final whistle.
