How to set a password on a Windows 7 folder?

In the modern world, even a person who is far from information technology has probably heard the saying that the most valuable is information. Each of us on our own experience is convinced of this almost every day. It is clear that all that is valuable needs protection. Especially when it comes to the safety of digital data stored on computer media. That is why the network often asks the question of how to put the password on the Windows 7 folder . The previous version of the system, Win XP, is almost never used, and the new Win 8 is still "raw", as a result of which remains Win 7. Therefore, we will consider just the seven.

Before starting to figure out how to set a password for the Windows 7 folder , we note two important points: firstly, you should carefully approach the delimitation of access to your information. It is recommended to write down any invented passwords and codes on a piece of paper or, more fundamentally, create a text file with them (it is convenient to store it, for example, in the file system of the memory card of your mobile phone). It is clear that this potentially reduces security, but you can’t imagine how often you have to deal with people who set a password on the Windows 7 folder and in a panic were looking for an opportunity to crack their own, but forgotten, passwords. So, we save passwords. At least for the first time, until you learn them.

Secondly, even a beginner can set a password on the Windows 7 folder. You do not need to listen to “advisers” who say that password is difficult. This is not true. The developers of such programs are doing everything possible to simplify the use of the application. Often it is enough to press one or two buttons and enter the password. Much easier!

There are several ways to prevent unauthorized access to your information. Each of them (and how else) has its own characteristics, so you need to familiarize yourself with them before making a final decision in favor of a particular software product. The first way to set a password for the Windows 7 folder is to use the operating system. It is possible if you log into the system with administrator rights, other users have their own login codes, and the file system is NTFS (with FAT32 this focus will not work). Click the right mouse button on the desired folder and follow the "Properties - Security". We edit the list in “Groups or users” (“Change” button). The window below allows you to configure the access level. Sometimes these settings are not accessible even to the administrator. To solve this, we follow in "Security - Advanced - Owner" and designate ourselves as the owner. Although the method is simple, it cannot be called reliable. There are many options to get around this protection. Although in some cases it is quite enough.

Alternative: "folder properties - general - others - encrypt contents." Effectively, it protects even from users with administrator rights (accounts differ), but when changing the account password, it becomes impossible to open encrypted elements. Take this into account.

The password for the Windows 7 folder can be set using another popular solution. It consists in password folder archivers. Consider WinRAR. First you need to download and install it on your computer. After that, run WinRAR, select the desired folder. Click on the image of the books (add files to the archive), then select the “Advanced” tab. Here you can set a password (dial twice so as not to be mistaken). Create a password-protected archive. That's all: now you can work with such an archived folder only knowing the password. Reliability is one of the highest, but using the archive is not always convenient.

Another option for data protection is third-party programs. One of the popular solutions. There are many such programs; their functionality also varies. Examples: Lock Folder, Folder Guard, Password Protect USB, etc.
