Many people are fascinated by sports such as snowboarding and skiing. Even 20 years ago, few could afford such a pleasure. The situation began to change due to the construction of new slopes and ski resorts in the country, as well as the availability of equipment necessary for skiing.

And if everything is theoretically clear with skiing, then mastering a snowboard for beginners is a real mystery.

How to snowboard? Such a question torments those who still do not know how, but want to learn. Of course, it is better to entrust the training to an experienced instructor or friend who has been riding confidently for a long time, but at least it is better to understand the theory before the first experience of skiing.

Clothing and equipment

The first, not entirely related to skating, but necessary, is the choice of clothing and protective measures. Clothing is better to get specialized, not getting wet and not restricting movements. It is advisable to supplement the set of clothes with a helmet, knee pads and protective shorts, since falls in the learning process are inevitable, it is better to protect yourself from injury.

Shoes are selected in such a way that they firmly fixed the foot and do not crush. Dangling shoes are traumatic. It is more comfortable to wear a boot on a high toe.

Bit of theory

Before you go snowboarding, or rather, begin to master it, you need to determine your leading leg, since depending on this, the mounts are adjusted, and it is determined which leg will be in front during skiing. One option is to glide across the floor (like on skates) and see which leg will take the first step.

Snowboard bindings, which are approximately shoulder width apart, need to be tightened tight enough so that the boots do not move in them, nor should they push. After the snowboard was dressed for the first time, you can stand on it and jump a little to determine whether the fastenings are fastened properly. On this the preparatory stages are completed.

By the way, the shoes are made in such a way that to straighten the legs in them is not an easy task. However, the technique of snowboarding appears much later than the ability to ride it, and is either instructor, or comes on an intuitive level.

Core skills

  1. One of the basic skills that you must learn before you ride a snowboard is to stand on a board on a flat surface. If this succeeds, you can move to a small slope for beginners, where you have to learn how to keep your balance and learn how to ride the edges. The board has two of them: if you stand on it with your feet on the mounts, the front will be located on the side of the capes of the shoes, and the back on the side of the heels.
  2. For the first day of classes it will be amazing if you manage to learn to scrape along the slope on the back edge and ride a "herringbone", moving from side to side across it. In the future, it is necessary to master the braking, which is carried out by the capes of the legs. So, if you slightly bend them, the board will begin to move forward, to bend - to stop.
  3. Mastering the front edging. The previous paragraph described how to move on the back edge, now the same thing needs to be done by standing facing the slope and standing on the front edge. First, sliding down on the edge is mastered, while control is also carried out by the toes, then you need to learn how to ride the Christmas tree and slow down. It is psychologically difficult for many to start riding on the front edge, and basically the first time the movement is carried out in tandem with the trainer, holding hands. It just seems that it’s simple, in practice it may take several days to acquire these skills, but then a sense of balance will come and training will go faster.
  4. Riding by rotation, which is achieved through transitions from the front to the rear edging and vice versa. Such a whirling in a waltz on a snowboard ... To make a turn, you need to slightly shift the weight of the body in the direction of rotation, as if drawing a turn, while bending the toes of the legs a little more. For the reverse transition to the front edging, it is necessary to do the same, only with the other leg.
  5. The exercise, having mastered which, you can gradually switch to independent skiing on gentle slopes, is essentially based on the previous one, only the board does not need to be unfolded completely, but you need to learn how to transfer body weight from the front to the back edging, but always staying with your leading foot forward.

When the five basic exercises listed above are mastered, we can say that the initial training in skating was successful, and then you only need to practice them and perform new ones to improve your style.
