It's great to grow tomatoes on their own in the garden in the summer, and it is still possible to have them on your table in early spring. Growing tomatoes in the greenhouse, which you can always do if you want and time, is a constant source of joy, but at the same time a hassle, because growing tomatoes in a greenhouse is very different from growing in open ground.
Tomatoes in the greenhouse growing: seedlings
Growing tomatoes on the windowsill precedes their cultivation in the greenhouse. First you need to sow the seeds in special boxes before the appearance of these third leaves, watering only 3 times, alternating with top dressing. The first time you need to water after the first seedlings, the second, when a couple of weeks later, when the first leaf appears and the third 3 hours before picking seedlings in pots.
Note. It is best to water under the root, preventing water from getting on the leaves. The water temperature should be 20 degrees Celsius and settled.
So that the seedlings do not extend in one direction, the box with seedlings must be turned daily with the other side to the glass. And the box must be on the stand, and not on the windowsill.
Seedlings dive into pots with a diameter of 8 to 10 cm, where they grow for 22-25 days. Then they need to be dived again in pots of a larger diameter of 12-14 cm. I water once a week.
Having grown seedlings at home on the windowsill, it can be planted in the greenhouse from late April to mid-May. But at this time itβs still cold, so the greenhouse needs to be covered with another layer of film at a distance of 3-4 cm, which can be removed in early June. In the greenhouse there should be windows not only on the sides, but also on top, this is due to the fact that tomatoes need very good ventilation.
Note. Tomatoes can not be planted in one greenhouse for several seasons in a row. The ideal option is the alternation of cucumbers and tomatoes. And in no case should they be planted together, since they need completely different conditions for growth and development.
Tomatoes in a greenhouse should be grown under excellent lighting from morning to evening, in no case should trees obscure it, this will affect the crop.
Tomatoes in a greenhouse growing: preparation of beds
A week before planting, you need to prepare the ridges for landing. They are made along the greenhouse, at a distance of at least 60 cm and the path between the ridges should have at least half a meter.
If a bed of clay or loamy soil is added to it per 1 square. m in a bucket of sawdust, peat and humus. Well, if the beds are made of peat, then it is necessary to add to them a bucket of sod land, sawdust and the floor of a bucket of coarse sand. In addition to this, it is necessary to add another 1 tbsp. l superphosphate, 1 tbsp. l potassium sulfate and 2 tbsp. l nitrofoski. Then everything is carefully dug up.
Immediately before planting, the earth is watered with a potassium permanganate solution, diluted per 1 g per 10 liters of water. A solution of potassium permanganate 50 degrees Celsius 1-1.5 liters is poured into each well.
Tomatoes in a greenhouse growing: planting seedlings
Normal seedlings reach a length of no more than 25 cm, and only planted, lightly sprinkling a pot on the ground. If the seedlings have grown, then in no case do not bury its trunk in the ground. The buried trunk of seedlings will immediately give new roots, which will provoke a suspension in growth and dropping of flowers of the first brush, which is not at all desirable.
It is much better to do the following: make another hole in a hole 12 cm deep into the depth of the pot and plant seedlings there, without filling the top one. When the seedlings take root, you can cover it with earth after 12 days.
Remember that before planting the lower leaves of seedlings must be removed to reduce the risk of plant disease. Remove leaves, preferably leaving 0.5 cm of petiole on them, so as not to injure the stem, when it dries, it will fall off.
Harvest and rejoice.
