Gabriela Soukalova: photo, short biography
In November 1, 1989, Gabriela Soukalova was born in the town of Jablonec nad Nisou. Her mother spoke at one time for the Czechoslovak ski team and became the 1984 Olympic relay medalist. However, Gabriela did not follow in her footsteps and decided to engage in biathlon from the age of 16, and her mother began to assist her in training as her personal trainer.
For the first time, Gabriela tried her hand at biathlon in 2005. For a short period of time (about several years), she achieved pretty good results at the level of her country. Coaches of the Czech team began to train her as part of the national team.
Success in sports
Not very successful first junior competitions did not deprive the faith of her coaches, so the athlete began to progress rapidly. Already in the 2009-2010 season. Gabriela Soukalova participated in the IBU Cup and almost a year later became the best biathlete in the sprint event. After that, she entered the main national team of the country and began to travel to all stages of the World Cup.
Her performance was also successful in the 2011-2012 season, where she became the silver medalist in the sprint as part of the relay team. The following year was more successful in terms of achievements. 2013 was marked by victory in the sprint race in Pokljuk (Slovenia).
In the same year, the bronze medal of the world championship in mixed relay was won. The final stage of the World Cup, held in Russia (Khanty-Mansiysk), for Gabriela was marked by winning first places in all three individual races: mass start, sprint and pursuit.
Recent Achievements
In the last season, Gabriela Soukalova pleased fans of this beautiful sport with her remarkable success. In individual races at the World Cup (stage 5 - January 14, 2016), Gabriela, even having unclosed targets, climbed the podium.
A beautiful athlete continues to demonstrate stability, not falling below 9th line in the standings. After the individual race at this stage of the World Cup (Ruhpolding), she is the leader in the overall standings. After a 12.5-kilometer mass start in the same competitions, Gabriela Soukalova again became the leader in the standings of this type. As a result, her victory was the tenth in the World Cup in her entire career. Team silver in the relay (4x6 km) was won by her on January 24 in Anterselva.
In total, Gabriela has 36 awards (including 21 - individual), and, in addition, she is the leader in points in the individual classification.
Gabriela Soukalova: personal life
Little is known about the biathlete’s personal life. She has a boyfriend, Peter Koukal, who is also an athlete - badminton player. Gabriela devotes her free time to charity work.
It is known that she, for one of the Czech editions of Today magazine, shot a nude camera with Koukal for a project aimed at combating the disease of the century - cancer.
Soukalova also participated in a photo shoot in support of infants abandoned by their parents and living in orphanages in anticipation of new parents. The proceeds from the action are sent to the Children's Center, located in the Prague Tomayera Hospital.
