Labor Samara - Glory Square

Once laid down to protect the Russian lands from the nomadic raid, the fortress at the confluence of the Volga and Samara, forever linked its fate with the great river. Due to its location on the banks of the main transport artery, the city grew and developed. The bread trade brought good profit, merchants of the XIX beginning of the XX centuries did not skimp on the construction of their homes. The city was built on a grand scale. The squares were decorated with magnificent temples.

A bit of history

If you look from the Volga towards Samara, a magnificent panorama opens. Between the snow-white temple of St. George the Victorious and the example of urban development of developed Socialism - the administration of the Samara region, the steel wing of the Glory monument shot up. During the heyday of Soviet power, it was decided to perpetuate the memory of the labor heroism of the inhabitants of the city and build a memorial on a hill near the Volga.

Glory Square

In 1971, residents received the Glory Square. Samara monuments replenished with a majestic 45-meter monument, crowned by a worker holding a steel wing. The symbol was chosen as a memory of the labor feat of workers who managed to establish the construction of the Il-2 flying tank in the most difficult conditions of World War II.

Monument of Glory

In memory of heroes

The Glory Square of Samara was planned as a single architectural complex with Victory Square. The place of honor is given to the bas-relief - Motherland with eternal flame. It has become a good tradition on the day of the wedding of the newlyweds to lay flowers in a holy place. Meetings are held here on memorable dates, heroes and veterans are honored. Along the border there are stone stands reminding residents of the city and tourists about the years of World War II.

Samara Glory Square has become one of the favorite places for walking. This is an excellent observation deck on the Volga. It offers stunning views. A diverging staircase leads to the water. A wall has been built along the slope - a memorial of honor and glory to the region.

Church of St. George

Already in the 21st century, near the Glory Square of Samara, the temple of the Great Martyr George the Victorious was laid down, founded by Alexander II. Its destruction contributed to the 1934 reformers. Already today, the domes of the temple rose again over the Volga. In 2011, near the cathedral a monument was erected to the faithful Murom Peter and Fevronier.

Victory Day

The most solemn moment for the square has always been the celebration of Victory Day. On this day, a large number of events are held here annually. The Samara Glory Square is equipped with large screens. Everyone can see the live broadcast of the Victory Parade in the capital, and a little later, a telethon between the cities of the Russian Federation and friendly Belarus. In the evening, a festive concert takes place on the Glory Square. In Samara, celebrations last at least two days. Numerous tourists can enjoy the magnificent spectacle of the fireworks from the observation deck on the banks of the Volga and the burning fountains.
