Pima - what is it? Masculine noun in the plural (Nenets language). It is synonymous with the words "boots", "boots". Not everyone can quickly answer this question. Many have never heard such a word. But some nationalities know what it is. They live in harsh climatic conditions where air temperature can drop to record low levels. It is pimas that save their feet from freezing. So, let's figure out what they are.
Pima is what?
Komi, Khanty, Nenets, Mansi - peoples who are saved from severe frosts, putting on pima. What it is? Footwear! It is sewn from a special material called kamus. This word will not be clear to many, so we need to clarify it. Camus - deer skin from the legs, shot by hand. Billets are made from raw materials, which are then used for sewing winter shoes called pima (see photo in the article). Both women and men wear them.
Before sewing, the skins are thoroughly processed. On the outside of the shoe, an ornament of moose antlers is often depicted. Such a symbol is considered a talisman. The skins are joined in such a way that the fur of dark and white is harmoniously combined. All seams are made very carefully, checked for strength. Fur turn out. Pima is a warm shoe made from their natural fur. Accordingly, there are certain rules for its storage. In the offseason, they are placed in special bags called shuipats. That is how the Pimas were stored in antiquity. It is believed that during their wear, the legs come into contact with the Underworld. In order not to break this connection and not meet with higher powers, national shoes must be stored separately from other things.
