Open Joint Stock Company “Rybinsk Instrument-Making Plant” refers to strategic enterprises of the country's defense sector. Within its walls, radio engineering equipment for the aerospace industry is developed and manufactured. The main products are speed meters, distance traveled and drift angles of aircraft. The company is part of the Vega radio concern.
Start
The decision to build the Rybinsk Instrument-Making Plant was made by the Minister of Aviation Industry on June 14, 1951. At that time, Rybinsk was a major center for radio engineering. Although formally it was not considered a closed city, foreigners were not allowed here. So, in conditions of secrecy, a new enterprise was created here, which was destined to become a leading manufacturer of aviation security systems and radar devices.
However, in the first years after the start of work at the Rybinsk Instrument-Making Plant, various families of testers were produced, which were necessary for testing electrical networks and electronic boards. The most popular was the measuring combined instrument of the TT-1 model, of which up to 8,000 units were produced monthly. By the mid-50s, the factory workers significantly expanded the range of products: from oscilloscopes to low-cost Volga radiol.
Under the wing of an airplane
Having gained experience, the team reached a new level of production. In 1958, the Rybinsk Instrument-Making Plant mastered the production of sophisticated electronic and technical devices designed to ensure the safety of aircraft, control systems and telemetry. By the way, few outside Rybinsk knew about the existence of the enterprise. Given the strategic importance of the product, the press did not write about it, did not make documentaries.
In the early 60s, the main forces were directed to the design and production of:
- Doppler meters of the “Route”, “Arrow”, “Shore” series, DISS. They are designed to measure speed, distance traveled and drift angle as part of the navigation systems of aircraft and helicopters.
- Flight support equipment. On-board telemetry is designed to solve the problems of telemetry during testing and regular operation of objects of space, rocket and aviation equipment.
- Over-the-horizon radar equipment.
Not a single sky
The Rybinsk Instrument-Making Plant is a diversified enterprise, in connection with which the team was entrusted with the production of not only aviation components. In 1964, the mass production of television units was launched, which were supplied to almost all domestic television plants.
By the end of the 60s, the space program of the USSR was gaining momentum. All possible resources were mobilized for low-Earth orbit flights. RZP, being a developed radio engineering enterprise, participated in the Lunar program. The team was entrusted with an extremely responsible mission - to make equipment for soft landing on the lunar surface of manned modules. However, due to the death of the designer Korolev, the project was not implemented. However, unique developments have found application in other programs.
OJSC "Rybinsk Instrument-Making Plant" today produces strategically important products. However, the details of his activities are not available to the general public.
