What are the sizes of bed linen?

What bedding sizes are considered standard? Why are duvet covers often not suitable for blankets, bed sheets are too large, or, conversely, barely cover the bed, and two pillows can be inserted into the pillowcase at all? To understand this issue, you need to find out the rules for sewing bed linen. In addition, you must determine the type of your own sleeping accessories.

Starting point

The problem is that relatively recently, the standard sizes of bed linen in Russia and Europe were completely different. In our country, they did not know what family sets are, and double sets were very different from those used abroad. In the same place, in principle, there was no concept of single beds and “soldier's” blankets, with which you can completely cover your body only when you lie flat on your back and do not move.

What are the sizes of bed linen

The same mess with sleeping accessories. The standard sizes of factory pillows are 70x70 cm in Europe and 50x70 cm in Europe. Blankets at domestic textile enterprises usually make 150x215 cm (one and a half) or 175x215 cm (double), in other countries they are 140x205 cm, 180x215 cm and 195x215 cm. it is even worse with sheets, our craftsmen prefer to save fabric and sew short products, in the same place, on the contrary, they cover the mattresses with huge sheets.

Therefore, before making a purchase of a set, you need to clarify the size of the bed linen, especially if they are non-standard. After all, it often happens that a person sleeps on a huge bed, using two pillows of different sizes and a small one-and-a-half blanket. In this case, it will be best to sew linen to order, that is, according to individual parameters.

Sizes of one and a half bed set

One and a half sets

We start the review with one and half bedding. Dimensions of elements in such sets:

  • pillowcase - 70x70 cm (2 pcs.);
  • a sheet - 150x215 cm (1 pc.);
  • duvet cover - 155x215 cm (1 pc.).

Deviations from the norm are here, and usually in a big way. So, there are sets with a sheet 160 cm wide and 215 cm long. The duvet cover in them is also different, but it, on the contrary, is smaller - 140x205 cm. Pillowcases in such sets are made according to the Euro sample - 50x70 cm.

It is worth noting that very often one and a half bedding sets are equipped with not just two, but just one pillowcase. In this case, the label should be marked Single or 1-bed. In addition, for some European manufacturers, the set consists only of a duvet cover and pillowcases (usually in Germany and Austria).

Sizes of double bedding

Standard double sets (domestic)

The sizes of 2-bedroom bedding are the same in Russia and China, the duvet cover from these sets is suitable for blankets 175 cm wide. The usual set consists of the following items:

  • two large square pillowcases 70x70 cm;
  • one sheet 180x220 cm;
  • one duvet cover 175x220 cm.

These are average parameters; products with precisely such dimensions are most often sold by outlets. But on the shelves of stores there are sets stitched according to GOST. If the manufacturer is guided by state standards in his work, he can make a narrower duvet cover - only 163 cm, the sheet in such sets is also different - its width is only 145-150 cm. You need to look carefully at the sizes of pillowcases, because they come not only with familiar to all with dimensions of 50x70 cm or 70x70 cm, but also with sides of 40, 60, 75 or 80 cm.

Sizes of teenage bedding

Eurosize

Now let's talk about what is Euro bedding. The sizes of these sets differ from ordinary double beds and are very significant. They are suitable for large blankets with a width of 195 cm and a length of 215 cm. Accordingly, the duvet cover will have parameters of 200x220 cm. Euro sheets are also large - 220x240 cm. Pillowcases in such sets can be of two options - or traditional square, with dimensions 70x70 cm, or narrow rectangular - 50x70 cm.

Often come across such sets, which enclosed as many as four pillow covers - two large and two small. In this case, narrow pillowcases can be decorated with decorative trim around the perimeter. If there is a mark “50x70 + 5” on the package’s packaging, then it is so - they have a wide edging on the edges.

There is another option for Euro-kits - maxi or King / Queen. The sizes of bed linen with such marks are increased even in comparison with rather large double sets of the western sample. Pillowcases in them do not differ from others, but the duvet cover is larger - 220x240 cm, and the sheets are different:

  • 220x240 cm;
  • 240x260 cm;
  • 240x280 cm;
  • 270x310 cm;
  • 290x310 cm.

When buying a double bedding set of the European sample, you need to carefully look at its packaging. It may not have sheets, but only a duvet cover and pillowcases.

Family Bedding Sets

This type of sets differs from the previous ones in that it has not one duvet cover, but two at once. This is a great option for spouses who do not want to huddle under one blanket and pull it together all night. The number of pillowcases in the kit can be different - two or four. In the first case, the size of the product will be either 70x70 cm or 50x70 cm. In the second case, both options will be in the set. The sheets in family sets are also not always the same and quite large - 240x260 cm or 240x280 cm. Duvet covers, as a rule, come with standard sizes and are suitable for one-and-a-half blankets with a width of 150-160 cm and a length of 215 cm.

Bed for children and adolescents: sizes

Do teenage bedding sets differ? The sizes of such sets correspond to adult one and a half. But usually only one pillowcase is enclosed in them. Almost all children's kits on the market are stitched according to European parameters. They are suitable for small cots and consist of a sheet, a duvet cover and one pillowcase. Baby pillows are always produced in one size - 40x60 cm, blankets are different, but most often it is 100x150 cm, less often - 100x120 cm. The sheet can be classic or with elastic bands. The usual ones have a size of at least 100x120 cm, a maximum of 120x170 cm, and those in which elastic tape is inserted should be suitable for a berth of 60x120 cm in size, while the height of the sidewalls cannot be less than 10-15 cm.

Thus, knowing the norms for sewing clothes, you can significantly save time by choosing a kit.
