Quite often there are situations when Windows XP categorically refuses to boot. The cause of this situation may be system failures due to a drop in electricity, as a result of viruses or other various factors. The risk of such a problem growing is directly proportional to the period of use of the system, which makes a long operation time without reinstallation a rather risky event.
In such cases, usually, to save information from the local drive "C" and continue working with the system, methods such as:
- return to the last save point;
- Download the last of the successful configurations;
- Login in safe mode.
However, often these methods can no longer help. At the same time, few people know about such a simple but effective method - restore Windows XP using the recovery console. The process is really very simple, so restoring Windows using the console will not cause any difficulties even for an unprepared user. However, for this you will need a Windows XP drive.
In order to start the recovery of Windows XP through the recovery console, you need to insert the disk into the computer and restart it. At the beginning of the computer boot, click the “delete” button, which will allow you to go into the “bios” settings. There, in the boot priority, you need to set the first choice to “CD-Rom” and press the “F10” button, and then confirm the changes with the “Y” key (which means “Yes”). The computer will restart and during boot-up will check the presence of the disk in the drive, prompting you to confirm by pressing any button on the keyboard that you really need to boot from the disk in the drive.
Next, the Windows XP distribution will be loaded into RAM, and a blue screen will appear on which you will be prompted to install or restore Windows. Restoring Windows XP using the recovery console will succeed if the user presses the "R" key, i.e. select the “restore” item.
After confirming the selection, an inscription appears asking “what system do you need to log into”. As a rule, a user has only one OS on a PC, which is why they choose it. Then enter the administrator password (if necessary) and press the "Enter" button.
The next step will be the appearance of the inscription “C: \ windows>”, where you need to enter: “fixboot”, after which you need to confirm the installation in sector “C” with the “Y” button. Then it will load into the sector, after which it will again appear: “C: \ windows>”, where we enter “fixmbr”. You will see a warning message on the screen, when it appears, you need to press the "Y" button.
After that, recording of the main download to the hard disk will begin, at the end of which a notification about its successful completion will appear. At the prompt “C: \ windows>”, you will need to answer “Exit”. The computer will reboot, and it will be possible to reuse all the information that was previously in it.
It must be remembered that restoring Windows XP using the recovery console is possible if it is the main system and there are no parallel installed operating systems.
