In the article, we will consider exercises to correct scoliosis in adults and children.
Scoliosis is a one-sided curvature of the spine. Depending on various internal and external factors, this pathological process develops at any age. The disease affects the thoracic and lumbar, therefore, special physical exercises are necessary to correct scoliosis.
Often, pathology is accompanied by severe pain, therefore, certain medications are used in the complex of therapeutic methods, but gymnastics is the most effective way of therapy.
Causes
The underlying cause that causes this disease is a curvature resulting from prolonged exposure to an uncomfortable position, injury, after high physical exertion, as well as in cases of congenital spinal deformities.
Stages
Scoliosis has four stages of development:
- At this stage, violations in the spinal column are minor, any significant discomfort in the patient does not occur. Some patients report excessive tiredness after prolonged walking. Often you can get rid of fatigue only after lying down for a certain time in a horizontal position. Perform exercises to correct scoliosis of the 1st degree will not be difficult.
- At the second stage, visual disturbances in posture are already observed. Motor activity is also impaired. At this stage, the patient may take unnatural postures. Therapeutic exercises to correct scoliosis of the 2nd degree will be most effective - they will help relieve muscle tension and slow down the development of the pathological process.
- The third stage is quite dangerous, and also quite painful. Serious changes occur in the structures of the spinal column, from which the internal organs suffer. If the patient is diagnosed with scoliosis of the third degree, then exercises with a similar curvature of the spine are selected by the attending physician individually, which will allow to avoid numerous complications.
- The fourth degree of curvature is the most complex and is extremely rare. At the same time, visual signs are very pronounced, the patient has significant problems with the work of many organs and systems.
We will find out how exercises for correcting scoliosis are useful.
Benefit
It should always be remembered that any exercises aimed at treating scoliosis should be carried out only after consulting a doctor. After the specialist determines the stage of the pathology, the most effective set of exercises for performing at home will be selected. Each degree of the pathological process has its own characteristics, therefore it is impossible to use the same complex at different stages of the development of this disease.
So, if the curvature of the spine is in the first two stages, physical exercises should be aimed at strengthening the patient’s muscle corset, adopting the correct body position, as well as restoring motor activity. Often, specialists prescribe special balancing exercises to correct scoliosis. Their constant implementation will help eliminate the negative symptoms of the disease.
If the pathological process has reached the third stage, then the exercises are carried out exclusively under the supervision of a specialist. At the same time, yoga and physiotherapy exercises, which help to cope with curvature, help well. All exercises should be carried out carefully and carefully, as there is a high risk of injury. It should be noted that the treatment of scoliosis of the third stage is never carried out at home, but only in medical institutions.
As for the pathological process of the fourth degree, it is most often treated with surgical methods, and a set of exercises to correct scoliosis plays the role of an auxiliary way to restore and maintain the body.
Exercise Recommendations
Any treatment methods, including exercises, can be performed with the permission of the orthopedist. In addition, it is necessary to strictly adhere to all his prescriptions, only then treatment will bring the desired effect:
- Therapeutic gymnastics allows you to return the spine to the correct position. In addition, it allows you to avoid the development of other diseases of the spine.
- Physical techniques help to form the correct posture, as a result of which the patient's motor functions will be significantly improved. Physical education should positively affect the state of muscle corset and improve blood circulation.
- Performing the right exercises to correct scoliosis improves not only blood circulation processes, but also improves breathing.
Doctors say that if you do not engage in physical therapy for scoliosis, it is almost impossible to get rid of the pathology, and this leads to disturbances in the work of all organs, including the heart.
Effective yoga exercises to correct scoliosis.
Yoga
Yoga with the development of this disease is not a traditional method of treatment, but many patients claim that this direction of physical activity positively affects the state of the body. The work of internal organs is normalized, blood circulation and respiration are stabilized, muscles are strengthened.
Specialists practice 13 special yoga exercises to correct scoliosis. They are aimed at stretching and strengthening muscles. So, 13 exercises:
- Stretching the shoulders and back and in the pose of a right angle.
- Stretching the back and shoulders in a vertical position ..
- Poses of cats and cows to strengthen the muscles of the chest.
- Pose of a stretching puppy to stretch the muscles of the arms and neck.
- Stretching in the rider pose of the hip flexor muscles.
- Stretching in the pose of a pigeon pigeon muscle.
- Stretching the biceps of the thigh.
- Twisting for the spine.
- Raising arms and legs.
- Strengthening the rectus abdominis muscles.
- Pose of the boat.
- Side plank.
- Relaxation in a corpse pose.
Basic rules of execution
Physiotherapy exercises should be carried out in compliance with some simple rules that contribute to the maximum effectiveness of such exercises. Each patient must adhere to such rules:
- Before class, it is necessary to conduct a warm-up to warm the muscles;
- exercises should be performed slowly, and a variety of acrobatic elements and jumping are prohibited;
- the load should not be excessively high, dumbbells should not be used;
- Exercises should be prescribed only by the attending orthopedic surgeon, who determined the stage of development of the disease.
Exercises to correct scoliosis according to Bubnovsky
The main feature of Bubnovsky’s exercises, unlike traditional exercise therapy, is the load on the muscles through the pain effect. The author of such gymnastics, Sergei Bubnovsky, believes that it is necessary to fight pathology by overcoming the pain threshold, since it is such a symptom that limits motor activity and causes atrophy of muscle fibers.
Basic exercises
The complex of traditional therapeutic gymnastics consists of warm-up elements, exercises themselves and the final part. To perform them at home, this is an excellent basic option, since this complex does not affect the spinal column, and the risk of injury is extremely low.
Scoliosis in adulthood is more difficult to cure, therefore asymmetric exercises that have a therapeutic effect are necessary, but they are selected by a doctor. Basic exercises are suitable for all categories of patients - adolescents, adults and young children.
Warm up
Perform exercises should be five times:
- Lean against a vertical surface and straighten your back so that the body takes the correct position. Then three steps are taken forward, while the posture should be maintained.
- Stand straight, arms along the body, legs shoulder width apart. It is necessary to do squats with arms extended forward, while the back is even. Exercise is carried out at a slow pace.
- Feet shoulder width apart, hands free. It is necessary to inhale and raise your hands up, then exhale, hands drop. The back should be flat during this exercise.
Main part
- In a standing position, one leg bent at the knee should be raised and held as high as possible for a while, and then returned to its original position. The same thing must be done with the other leg.
- Lie on your back and raise your legs. Do the exercise “scissors”.
- Standing on all fours, sit on your heels with your buttocks and rest your hands on the floor. After this, it is necessary to move the body with the hands in different directions. The movements should be slow, the delay in each position is 10 seconds.
- Starting position - standing on all fours. Limbs shoulder width apart. You need to bend your back up and down at a slow pace.
- For this exercise you will need a solid pillow, which must be put on the floor and lie on it. Hands behind their back are locked in the lock. After this, you should raise the body up to the maximum height, without overloading the spine.
- Standing on all fours, stretch the left arm forward, the right leg back. In this position, you need to hold out as much as possible, after which you can change the position to the opposite.
- Lie on the side from which the spinal column is curved. A small pillow is placed under the stomach. The upper leg should be bent at the knee, the lower leg should be left in the same position. One hand, which is on top, needs to be raised above the head, the bottom should be taken by the neck. In this position, the patient stays for at least ten seconds, then lies on his back and relaxes.
The final part
- Sit down, bend your legs, clasping your knees with your hands. In this position, it is necessary to lie on your back and do rifts. Such a massage has a positive effect on the muscles of the back. To do this exercise is necessary seven times.
- In a standing position, clasp your hands in the lock behind your back. Walk on your heels for a minute.
- Stretch up arms and walk on toes.
- Walking in one place with raising legs in turn - half a minute.
After exercise, you need to rest at least 30 minutes. Physiotherapy exercises should be carried out every day. The effect will not take long if special exercises against scoliosis are carried out regularly and correctly.
Exercises to correct scoliosis in children are also available.
Exercise Effectiveness in Teens and Children
It is proved that the formation of posture and the spine itself ends by about twenty years, so the curvature in adolescents lends themselves to therapy much more effectively through exercise. They are most relevant for scoliosis of the first two degrees, however, at subsequent stages it is almost impossible to correct such violations.
The main goals of exercises to correct scoliosis in adolescents and children are:
- decrease in load on the spinal column;
- posture correction;
- normalization of the state of the body as a whole;
- strengthening the muscle frame.
The complex of therapeutic measures for curvature of the spine also includes various massages, manual therapy and swimming.
The use of all of the above methods allows you to get rid of curvature of the spine at an early stage with maximum speed, and also to prevent the progression of such a pathological process. Gymnastics can be performed by children at home, after consultation and under the supervision of a qualified orthopedist.
