Everyone who lived in rural conditions or has a country cottage in the countryside perfectly understands the entire laboriousness of the work that has to be done daily. Each sawn tree is many thousands of calories and often nerves spent - how do you know where it will fall? Fortunately, there are many effective recommendations that simplify and secure this process.
First, we’ll uncover our chainsaw (and it’s most reasonable to work with it). Check the fuel level, make sure that the tool is fully operational, if necessary, tension or re-sharpen the chain. Prepare all the extra tools that you might find useful during your work. But ... "How much does it cost" to cut a tree if you decide to do it without permission, without obtaining the appropriate permission from the regulatory authorities?
Things to remember
If you are tired of death by a tree on the street behind the fence, and you want to get rid of it, first start talking with local authorities. The point here is in legal conflicts. It happens that the territory that begins literally behind the fence of the dacha belongs to the local forestry, and the fine for a felled tree dumped without an appropriate permit is up to five thousand rubles. The liability of legal entities may exceed 200 thousand rubles.
Safety rules when working with an electric saw
Is it possible to cut down trees using an electric tool? Not everyone likes to work with gasoline saws, which are very noisy and childish. Electric saws when felling trees are no worse than their “liquid fuel” counterparts, but when working with them at this moment it is extremely important to observe at least the basic safety rules!
Please note that this tool is very fond of oil. Often knock the sawdust out from under the protective cover during operation. This will ensure an uninterrupted supply of lubricant to the chain. If there is a need to cut a large number of boggy and knotty trees, do not rely on the oil pump in the saw itself: put a bucket of oil near the workstation and from time to time just dip the tire into it. Naturally, even with this method, do not forget to sometimes remove sawdust.
Note that for electric saws , only oil with a sufficient degree of density can be used. Spindle and transformer oils are not suitable for these purposes at all! Do you think these are trifles? Unfortunately no. Suppose you decide to cut a tree: where to go if a broken chain “grabs” a decent chunk from your leg? So do not spare the grease!
Other rules
The second one. Working with a bad chain is fraught not only with injuries, but also with the fact that the saw quickly “skips” the already poor engine life of the engine. Use only (!) Normal chains, do not buy “branded” products in the markets, being guided by their low cost. Do not forget to sharpen the chain: a normal file is cheaper than an asterisk that has “flown” from working “tightly”. In addition, a dull chain is the right and right way to wear out the engine, which is virtually impossible to get separately.
Do not operate under reduced voltage! In conditions of increased voltage, the protection will work, but when its value is reduced, the saw will work, catastrophically overheating. By the way, electric saws are devices that are not intended for long-term use. After a few minutes of work, be sure to pause, allowing the saw to cool.
What needs to be done before starting work?
So that the sawn tree with a bang does not fall directly on the head of the unlucky lumberjack, the following must be done / checked before starting work:
- Is your future “sacrifice” straight, or is the tree curved into a bagel.
- Immediately decide which way you are going to bring him down.
- All work space in this direction should be carefully cleaned by removing knots, branches, stones and other garbage.
- The tree itself needs to be prepared, having completely removed all the knots and massive bark influxes located below the level of your shoulder.
Where will the top fall?
If you have already decided on the side where you will dump the tree, but you are not sure of your eye and do not want it to fall directly on the house of your beloved neighbor, it is advisable to check the place where the peak will collapse. Make it easy.
First, take an ax outstretched and stand next to a tree. Go to the direction where you were going to bring down the "baobab" until its silhouette is visually equal in size to the ax. Fix this moment and look at your feet - you are just standing in the very place where the sawn tree will fall (more precisely, its top). If you didn’t come across a neighbor’s fence or house along the way, then everything is in order and you can begin to work. In the case when something like a power line is inevitably met on the path of a falling tree, you better immediately change the direction of the tree to stall.
How to work with a saw?
Just note that the technique of felling large and small trees is different, and it's hard not to notice it. The easiest way, as you might guess, is the case with the "fineness." And therefore we will begin with it. So, what needs to be done to see a sawn tree at your feet?
First you need to make a neat cut in the direction the trunk is tilted (at least there is almost always a slight tilt). If the tree is perfectly straight, then an incision is made in the direction you plan to dump it. Do not be zealous! Cutting should be done at 50% of the diameter of the trunk, and not try to immediately brush away the tree with one “easy motion”. If you are working with an electric saw, be sure to allow the tool to cool from time to time.
Completion of work
Gently file the trunk from the other side, “grabbing” that moment until it starts to fall. After that, quickly move away from the place where the top of the tree you sawed should fall. If the tree is very small, then it will be easiest to first saw it off at the level of your shoulder, and only then carefully chop the wood in parts. That's all, in general.
Here's how to cut a tree with a chainsaw or electric tool. But this is still half the battle, as you have yet to prepare a large pile of firewood and cut branches! How it's done?
How to cut an already dumped tree trunk?
Sawing must begin with the farthest branches. Small branches can be chopped up with an ax, or cut off without a saw by a saw. But large pieces are first filed from above, and then cut from below. So you need to do so that the sawn wood does not tightly clamp the tire of your saw. The same goes for the biggest knots.
We think it would be worthwhile to remind you that when working, try to put wood blocks under the sawed trunk of the tree so that the tool chain does not touch the ground when working. Otherwise, it will become very dull very quickly, and in especially severe cases, it can generally break, hitting and crippling the unlucky lumberjack. So we figured out the "little thing."
Now let's talk about the "mastodons": how to cut down a tree? The technology of the felling of large trunks differs in some nuances of great importance. Carefully follow the sequence of work described by us, as the consequences of not meeting them can be severe.
Valim big trees
Remember what we talked about the importance of choosing the direction of stall? If you need to cut a tree of "monumental" sizes, then these rules become even more relevant. In the case when a small branch falls on your head, or on the roof of your house, then there is nothing wrong with that. But in the case when a huge and old poplar collapses on the same surface, then nothing good will definitely happen.
First, you need to make the upper cut, directing the saw bar at an angle of 60 degrees to the surface of the barrel. Naturally, you need to do this from the side on which you want to drop the tree. Unlike the previous case, you need to cut the trunk by no more than 25-30% of its diameter. As soon as you make the top cut, start a cut below it. In doing so, you must cut a triangular piece of wood. By the way, this is how beavers work when building their dams.
After that, go to the opposite side of the tree and make another horizontal cut exactly opposite the first. It is extremely important to make sure that it does not reach the first one by about 10% of the total thickness of the barrel. Finished?
And now, insert a wedge (or a special expander for felling) into the resulting saw. Pounding it with a sledgehammer or ax ax, we “finish” the tree, initiating the beginning of its fall. There is also a simpler method of felling, which is used by experienced lumberjacks: a tree is sawed through (for this you need a long tire and a powerful saw), and then the tool begins to advance in the direction on which it is necessary to dump the trunk. It will be incomplete. A wedge is inserted into it in the same way, and the operation that we have already described above is repeated.
Features of sawing trunk and branches
In large trees, it is advisable to start cutting the branches from below. As in the previous case, the first file is made from above, and then everything else is "cut off" from below. If the branch is very large, then you need to cut it not right at the base, but a little at a distance. The knot is then removed separately. Correct sawing of the barrel is as follows:
- Top cut is made on 50% of the diameter of the tree.
- Important! Without removing the saw bar from it, insert the wedge there, and only then pull out the saw! Otherwise, the wood will tightly clamp everything.
- After that, you can finish to the end, trying not to touch the ground.
If you decide to cut a tree on your site, but the saw bar is stuck tightly in it, do not pull it out! It is necessary to turn off the engine and, gently rocking the trunk in different directions, gradually pull the tire out of the trap in which it finds itself. So to summarize.
Safe Felling Rules
- If you are working with a chainsaw, smoking during the sawing process is strictly unacceptable. Wood and gas are a great combination! With a particularly “successful” scenario, you will definitely have nothing to saw, because everything will just burn ...
- In no case should there be pregnant women, children and pets in the area where you are going to cut trees.
- When working, use gloves and hold the tool firmly. Drop it - and you can remain not only without a saw, but also without a leg.
- Do not cut the tree vertically with the edge of the saw, the “recoil effect” may work and the tool will be thrown right at you.
- Wear work gloves and clothing, protect your face from slivers and dust. To make it easier to work, wear special soundproof headphones, otherwise the chainsaw buzz will be remembered for a long time.
- In case of a tumble, use the tree trunk as a shield, do not go unnecessarily to the place where the trunk will fall if you have already made a cut.
- If you are working with an electric saw, please select extension cords of “acidic” bright colors. Such wires are very clearly visible, and therefore the risk of accidentally sawing them is minimal.

Here's how to cut a tree correctly: this work is quite difficult, but, when basic safety requirements are met, it is not dangerous. Cases of injuries and injuries happen, but, as a rule, inexperienced lumberjacks are to blame.
