The varied and amazing plant kingdom of our planet. Succulents are considered one of the most mysterious representatives of the flora. And this is completely justified, since the form and properties of these interesting specimens are very different. Our publication is dedicated to European soleros - a plant that is unusual in every way.
Soleros - Amaranth Grass
This annual herb is often called hodgepodge. And this is wrong. Despite the fact that these plants belong to the same family, they are nevertheless polar different: the hodgepodge bush has nothing to do with the saltwort grass. In this succulent, the shoots and branches are cylindrical joints - straight, branched and bare. The leaves of the plant are undeveloped, and the flowers are collected in spike-like inflorescences on short legs. The peak of flowering occurs in July-August. The fruits ripening by November have an oval or ovoid shape.
Initially green, soleros eventually acquires a red-purple color of the joints. The plant is distributed in the Central Asian and European territories of Russia, in Siberian regions, in the Far East and the Caucasus. Soleros is a grass that feels comfortable on the most seemingly unsuitable for successful growth lands - raw salt marshes, sea coasts and around salt lakes. This succulent is also found in the foothills. He is able to survive in the mountains at an altitude of 4 meters above sea level.

The northern peoples of Russia traditionally use herbaceous parts for the preparation of vodka tinctures - an effective anti-inflammatory and analgesic for arthritis, rheumatism and gout.
Soleros, or rather its aboveground parts, is a food plant. Fresh stems are added to salads. They are seasoned with hot and cold soups. A variety of side dishes are prepared from heat-treated shoots and are also used as an integral part in complex vegetable dishes and pastries. Edible and healthy soleros for animals. Growing on pastures, it is well eaten by cattle. Dried and powdered parts of the plant have a pronounced insecticidal effect that repels insects.
When and how is saltwater harvested?
The grass reaches its greatest healing power during flowering: in July-August. It was then that it was harvested, cutting off the stems almost at the base. Dried in ventilated rooms, protected from bright sunlight, spreading out in a layer of 2-3 cm. Dried grass is stored in a glass container or cloth bags.
