Many summer residents plant on their plots beloved white cabbage. However, not everyone at the end of the season enjoys a good harvest. Most often, the reason is that not all amateur gardeners know how to properly water cabbage.
The need of this culture for water depends on its age. When the fetus is forming, watering the cabbage should be more intense than when building the deciduous mass. It should not be planted in the lowlands, a saturation of the soil with moisture may occur, which will harm the cabbage, its growth will be inhibited, various diseases may occur, and in the end the plant will die. After the roots of this culture stay more than eight hours in very moist soil, they gradually begin to die. Excess moisture before the harvest can cause cracking of heads of cabbage, so a month before the ripening of
late- season
cabbage should be stopped. There are three watering methods that every summer clerk can use on his site. Which one is right for you, choose for yourself.
Watering cabbage on specially made furrows is considered the most common, but it has its drawbacks. It should not be used on sandy and sandy loam lands. Immediately after planting, this method of irrigation is better not to apply, since young and still weak roots of the plant do not reach the water, therefore at this time it is better to add water to the root zone.
Irrigation of cabbage can be used for any terrain and on any soil. The disadvantages of this method include the cost of electricity and the formation of a dense crust on the surface of the soil. On small plots of land, pulsating installations can be used. Water is supplied to them under pressure with a hose. Now there are such models of these installations that can adjust the radius of capture of the water stream.
The drip irrigation method, or rather drip irrigation, is considered to be new and more perfect. Water is supplied to each plant through hoses. Its quantity is regulated using special devices - droppers. This method is extremely effective:
- its application on any soils and reliefs is possible;
- water is supplied pointwise - the aisles remain dry, which allows for various work;
- water flows only where it is needed.
This method has one drawback - the high cost of such an installation.
Often beginner gardeners and gardeners ask the question: "How often to water the cabbage?" If the weather is hot and dry, then it is recommended to water it no less than eight days later. If the soil contains a lot of sand, more frequent watering is required. You will be able to determine that the plant does not have enough moisture by a weak increase in green mass. The same symptom may indicate a lack of nutrients. If the leaves of the cabbage became pale, it means that it lacks nitrogen. If lilac color appears on the leaves and petiole , there is not enough phosphorus, dry spots on the leaves and dry border indicate a lack of potassium. In order to fertilize cabbage with all nutrients at once, it is necessary to water it with a weak solution of manure with superphosphate.
