Modern farmers, engaged in subsistence farming, prefer to use universal breeds for breeding birds, providing the family with both meat and eggs in sufficient quantities. That is why, recently, breeding breeds of poultry bred specifically for this purpose have become popular. And today weβll talk about two of these species: the chickens of the faverol parody and the Kuchin chicken breed.
Chicken Faverol: description
Those who are professionally engaged in breeding poultry have long been familiar with the unique breed of faverole, the so-called French breed of chickens.
The bird will not create any problems when breeding. As a rule, these are chickens with a balanced character, having rather large sizes and magnificent plumage. A distinctive feature of the appearance of the breed is a comb of a special shape, called a leaf-shaped, and a beard of a sufficiently large size, located immediately below the beak.
Chicks grow quite quickly and take shape in adults, while they have excellent meat qualities.
The bird has a calm, even rather phlegmatic disposition. This French breed of chickens prefers a sedentary lifestyle, which often leads to obesity. In this regard, bird feeding should be limited.
Chickens of this breed are distinguished by increased egg production at any time of the year, so in winter you will also not be left without domestic eggs. This is due to the fact that the body of the bird is covered with fluffy plumage, so faverol chicken can do an excellent job of lowering the ambient temperature. And although the feathers in the tail are short, but the paws of the bird also have magnificent plumage, which helps them not to freeze during the winter cold. Another striking difference between this breed of poultry is the presence of the fifth finger on the paw.
Faverol chicken has an extremely elegant plumage and looks very unusual. Moreover, they may even differ in color, standing out against the background of simple layers. The most common is salmon faverol. In this case, the back, lumbar region and wings are covered with feathers of a salmon-red hue (hence the name). The Colombian faverole, which has an unusual silver pen color, is much less common.
The cock of this breed has a significantly brighter plumage than in laying hens. Most often, the rooster faverol is a large bird in black and white.
Content Features
A distinctive feature of the breed is the love of free movement, since chickens prefer to independently seek out food for themselves, looking for various insects in the soil and getting the minerals they need. In this regard, it is not necessary to constantly feed chickens with mineral additives and synthetic vitamins.
Faverol chicken likes to perform an unhurried exercise in the open space, so their joint content with other, more mobile and fussy breeds of poultry is undesirable.
The content of faverole in cramped and enclosed enclosures can lead to an outbreak of disease, since birds are quite sensitive to high humidity. And this in tight cages is absolutely inevitable.
Perch organization
Since chickens are quite large in weight and at the same time clumsy, it is not advisable to arrange a high perch. Birds will fall from it and be injured. It is better to build roosts for faveroles low, round in shape and, ideally, equipped with ladders. The steps are best done fairly wide, given the natural tendency of birds to become obese.
Feverole Feeding
For catering, you should not install feeders on the ground, since fawerels, like chickens of other breeds, like to scatter food when climbing into feeders. That is why the feeders should be suspended, but positioned so that it is convenient for the chickens to get food.
When planning the compilation of the faverole chicken rations, the poultry breeder must first of all take into account the tendency of birds of this breed to overeat and, as a result, obesity. Therefore, it is especially necessary to strictly observe the norms of feeding, as well as choose non-nutritive components for the diet.
Dwarf Faveroli
In order to increase the egg production of the breed, German breeders bred an improved bird from this point of view - a dwarf fawerel. These hens turned out pretty small. The weight of the bird does not even reach a kilogram, but at the same time they carry eggs much more actively than ordinary faverols. Given the small size, dwarf fawerels are used primarily for laying eggs, and not as a meat breed.
Breeding Faverole
The breed is not considered rare, but in its pure form, birds can be found infrequently. The reason for this is the insufficient egg production of chickens of this breed; its meat properties are recognized at the same time of a sufficiently high quality.
Some subtleties
For breeding, acquire several chickens from one seller and a cockerel from another. Poultry experts do not recommend buying young animals from the same family, as with closely related breeding, various deformities have been observed in the offspring.
Starting from six months of age, hens, as a rule, begin to rush. Eggs should be laid in an incubator before the hatching process begins. The incubator temperature is kept constant. It is not recommended to store eggs for more than two weeks, and it is best to take fresh ones to hatch.
Chickens of this breed have one significant drawback - they have practically lost their hatching instinct, so the use of an industrial incubator for raising chickens will be preferable, since in this case you can not be afraid that they will be thrown by a brood in the middle or at the end of the hatching process.
Chicken faverol hatch almost simultaneously. After that, they need to provide a dry room and a constant temperature. Young animals are fed corn porridge and chopped eggs. Then gradually transferred to specialized feed and free range.
Anniversary Kuchinsky hens
Unlike French faveroles, modern Kuchinsky chickens are a product of domestic breeders and were bred not so long ago.
Breed description
The Kuchin breed of chickens is quite different from ordinary pestles. A huge external difference exists between chickens and a rooster.
The rooster has a small head. Scallop is clearly divided into five teeth. The bird is distinguished by a strong beak, plumage adjacent to the body and muscular paws.
In chickens, the comb is also divided into five teeth, but its height is relatively small. By color, chickens of the Kuchinsky breed are divided into two types: double outlined and bordered.
This poultry has a number of advantages. First of all, they are quite unpretentious to living conditions: they feel great both in small yards and in large factories. When changing the place of detention, as a rule, chickens behave positively. Chickens gain weight fast enough.
In chickens, just a day after birth, you can easily determine the sex. In addition, the hatchability of chickens from eggs is quite high.
Along with the advantages, birds of this breed also have disadvantages. And this is a tendency to overweight, especially in the second year of life. At the same time, the egg production of chickens is deteriorating.
Breeding
The Kuchin breed of chickens today is bred without any problems, since it is quite common in Russia. To do this, it is enough to purchase young chickens, adults or just fresh eggs.
Small chickens should be warm for the first time, so they need to be kept warm and comfortable in a light and dry room. Eating babies should be organized based on their needs: they feed the chickens about 9 times a day, making a night break for 6 hours. Later, young animals are fed with a frequency of three hours. With the perfect organization of the content, food for small chickens should be present in the feeders constantly. At the same time, it is necessary to strictly monitor that it does not deteriorate, timely replacing it with a fresh one.
Catering for adult chickens
The Kuchin breed of chickens is unpretentious in feeding, so its nutrition is not much different from the diet of any other poultry.
Initially, small chickens are fed semolina. Gradually, as they grow older, chopped greens, protein supplements and root crops begin to be added to the diet. Chickens grow quickly enough, especially if all the recommendations for maintenance are followed.
Adults are fed various grain feeds, adding the necessary additives to them to increase bird productivity. It is also worth remembering compliance with the drinking regime: the water should be constant, fresh and in easily accessible feeders.
Maintenance and care
The organization of living and caring for the breed of Kuchinsky hens does not require special training. The bird is perfectly adapted to any weather changes, so wintering takes place without problems.
Kuchinsky hens are a calm and non-aggressive breed, if we talk about their attitude to humans, but they will not tolerate another bird on their territory.
In this regard, poultry experts recommend that the Kuchinsky hens provide a separate room for keeping and at the same time observe a constant contingent of birds, without introducing newcomers to them.
The bird of this breed feels equally comfortable both on free-range and in cellular content. There is an opinion that the content of chickens of this breed in cages is much preferable, since it allows you to control the amount of food intake, which is especially important for this breed, which is prone to excess weight. In addition, in a confined space, the risk of developing diseases is reduced, since the bird does not intersect with representatives of other species.
Both chickens faverol and Kuchin breed are equally popular with poultry farmers. It is also worth adding that these are the best meat breeds of chickens. But nevertheless, Kuchin hens are more popular among domestic farmers due to their adaptability to the climatic conditions of our country. In addition, this breed is much less demanding on the organization of content and feels great in cells. Whereas faveroli, who love open space, categorically do not recognize this type of pastime.
