What is chat?

Gone are the days when you had to wait at least a week to answer a letter. Today, to communicate with a person who is on the other side of the planet, you need only one condition - a computer at hand and a properly functioning Internet. Hundreds of thousands of people chat daily. What is chat?

If you translate this English word into Russian, you get a "conversation", and in a sense even a "chatter". After all, by going to the chat, everyone can talk on any topic. Thanks to Internet chats, not only two people can talk to each other, but also several users at once. To do this, they just need to connect the appropriate software. The main thing is not to confuse chat with forums and emails. Of course, they also serve as communication between people, but not as fast as chat rooms. Chat programs include everyone's favorite “ICQ” and “SMS”. So, even a regular mobile phone can be considered the progenitor of chat.

What chat is, it became known in 1988, however, then it was called a relayed Internet conversation, and later, for simplicity and convenience, they began to use the word "chat". In 1991, when there was a war in Iraq, the first news broadcast through the IRC chat took place. Messages from all countries appeared in one place in real time. Later, in 1998, Jabber was invented, which became a more advanced chat model.

You can use chat only when registering on a network resource. Fortunately, this procedure is needed only on the first visit and is not particularly difficult. At the end of registration, the user receives a username and password, which must be specified at each login, and also selects a nickname - often a fictitious name, so that other users can access it. However, now there are many resources that take on the proud name of “free chat”, that is, chat, for communication on which you do not need to fill out a questionnaire and register. This makes the communication process even easier. To enter such a chat, just think of a nickname and enter the characters from the picture.

Do not worry if you do not know what chat is, because to communicate in this system you do not need special knowledge and skills other than printed ones. Messages will have to be typed on the keyboard.

Many servers on which users communicate offer such a type of service as creating rooms of interest, by topic, which greatly facilitates the search for like-minded people. Communicating in a chat, people can send messages both to the main page, where all user statements are displayed, and "in private". A message in private can only be read by the user to whom it is addressed.

There are two types of chat servers. These include HTML chat and Java chat. And if the first of them is the most traditional, and more affordable, since it does not require additional software, the second type, called “Java”, works only when a client program is installed that provides the effect of “live communication”. There are chats based on Adobe Flash technology. Communication in them occurs using a special pop-up socket, which allows you to spend less traffic.

The so-called "local chats" are popular today - programs designed to communicate on local networks. These include Vypress Chat. In addition to communication, you can transfer files through a local chat. Video chats appeared, where the exchange of communications also takes place via the keyboard, but there is an additional image of the printer, which allows you to monitor his facial expressions and emotions, and voice chats, such as TeamSpeak. The latter are especially popular in team games. Skype can also be attributed to one of the varieties of chat programs. And on the channels chats are used for congratulations on holidays and making acquaintances. They are displayed in a running line at the bottom of the screen.

Now, for sure, it became clear to everyone what chat is. In addition, if desired, any user of the world wide web can create his own.
