Kambar Engineering Plant, Udmurtia

Kambar Machine - Building Plant (KMZ) is Russia's leader in the production of narrow-gauge railway equipment. Diesel locomotives, wagons, railcars, snow-clearing equipment are operated at many enterprises, peat and logging, mineral deposits. KMZ also makes major and ongoing repairs of narrow and wide gauge diesel locomotives, supplies spare parts and accessories for them (axial gears, cardan shafts, gears, shoes, blocks, power accessories).

Kambara Engineering Plant

Historical reference

Kambar Engineering Plant is one of the oldest enterprises in the Urals. It was founded by the famous family of industrialists - Demidovs. In the XVIII century, the mining and metallurgical industries rapidly developed in the Urals. The Kama River, enormous forests and the Kambarka river suitable for the construction of a pond favored the creation of a plant here.

In 1760, the Demidovs allowed the construction of a hammer factory on the Kambarka river for processing pig iron and a saw mill for sawing wood. The productivity of the Kambar plant in the years 1774-1796 amounted to about 60,000 pounds of iron per year. By 1830, productivity increased to 100,000 pounds (1,600 tons) per year. In the Kambara plant, there were 3,711 people.

At the junction of eras

After the revolution in 1919, the Kambara Machine-Building Plant began to produce carts and received the name "Kambara State Crew Plant". In 1933, the Kambara Foundry and Mechanical Plant of the People's Commissariat of the USSR was created on the basis of the former ironworks and the school of FZU.

The company specialized in the production of railway equipment and narrow gauge rolling stock for the mechanization of the forest industry. It produced horse-drawn trolleys, eight-ton platforms with a wooden frame, metal riveting platforms, saw sharpening machines, foam for skidding, alloy chains and other products. In 1936, Kambarka was transformed into a working village, and on July 4, 1945 - into a city of regional subordination. More than 80% of the entire foundry and mechanical plant went to the front.

Post-war development

After the war, KMZ produced horse-drawn trolleys, narrow-gauge freight 10-ton platforms, power-saw benches, and railway fasteners. In 1950, the plant mastered narrow-gauge snowplows, trailers, auto-brake platforms, passenger and freight-passenger carriages, construction vehicles and mechanisms, floating dredging plants, construction and repair trains.

In 1956, a major event took place - the Kambara Engineering Plant manufactured the first prototype of the DM-54 motor vehicle. From this moment, the time of the enterprise as a locomotive builder begins. In 1959, the development of narrow-gauge diesel locomotives TU2M began at the plant.

Labor 60s

In 1960, the first experimental TU4 diesel locomotive with a capacity of 250 liters was manufactured. from. with hydraulic transmission. This locomotive revolutionized narrow gauge vehicles. During the years 1961-1972, more than 3210 diesel locomotives were produced. Despite its considerable age, the TU4 locomotive is still the most common type, being very popular among transport workers.

In 1964, the production of TU5 diesel locomotives with a capacity of 300 liters was launched. from. with hydraulic transmission. Three years later (in the year of the 200th anniversary) KMZ first came out with the supply of equipment for export, and the first batch of TU5E diesel locomotives was sold to the Vietnamese fighting against the American occupation.

general manager

To replace the obsolete diesel locomotives DM-54, TMU-61 and MD54-4 in 1964, the production of TU6A diesel locomotives was mastered , and since 1982 its improved version - TU8 with a capacity of 180 liters was produced. from. with mechanical transmission. The total number of locomotives broke all records - 4555 pieces.

With a quality mark

In 1970, the TU7 diesel locomotive was created, and in 1985, the TU7A in versions of 20 and 24 tons for a gauge of 750, 1000 and 1067 mm. TU7E export variations were supplied and are currently working in Vietnam, Cuba, Bulgaria, Mali, the Czech Republic, and Guinea. To date, more than 3300 units have been produced of this type of machines.

In 1980, the KMZ team first designed and manufactured a prototype of the TGM40 wide-gauge diesel locomotive. To date, about 1,000 units have been manufactured. Based on this model, a snow blower TGM40S was created. By the way, in 1983 the TGM40 locomotive received the Gold Medal at the International Leipzig Fair. This is the only gold medal of the Leipzig Fair in the domestic diesel locomotive industry.

Kambar Engineering Plant KMZ

In 1993, four diesel locomotives TU9 HPP were manufactured by special order for shunting and export work in underground workings at the construction of the Irganayskaya HPP in Dagestan. In 1995, an AM3 official auto-track was created for the Ministry of Railways, on its basis for the first time in the country a defectoscope auto-rail was created for the Ministry of Railways. In 1997, again for the first time, a composition was prepared for the removal of weeds.

Today

Kambar Engineering Plant remains the leader in the production of narrow gauge vehicles for 750 mm and 1067 mm. Being a unique enterprise in terms of product range, KMZ has a modern machine park and equipment, highly qualified personnel.

KMZ is a joint stock company. Director General Biryukov Alexander Ivanovich owns a controlling stake. Accordingly, he is interested in the development of the enterprise. Factory workers are able to fulfill serial and individual orders for the construction of:

  • diesel locomotives;
  • wagons;
  • special equipment;
  • narrow gauge track machines.

KMZ also has a production base for the assembly of industrial diesel locomotives with a wide gauge of 400 hp. and diagnostic flaw detection systems for the subway. The pride of the plant is the handsome TU10 diesel locomotives used in suburban traffic on narrow gauge sections and the Children's Railways.

The enterprise is a city-forming and is located at the confluence of the Kambarka River in Kama. Factory address: 427950, Udmurtia, Kambarka city , Sovetskaya street, 23.
