Many have thought at least once in their life about the question of where fashion trends come from, or why a particular clothing style is becoming popular. To understand these issues, we turn to the concept of "threadsetter".
Who are the trendsetters?
The word trendsetter, borrowed from English, consists of two parts: trend - trend, and set - set, set direction. Therefore, the word trendsetter can be translated into Russian as "a person who creates new precedents for trends, sets the trend in fashion." Most often, this concept is used in the context of a person who sets trends in the field of fashion, but it happens that innovators in the field of technology, lifestyle or business are also called a trendsetter.
Types of trendsetters
Trendsetters are, of course, unique personalities. Such people, by personal example, experience and introduce into society new ideas that are widely known and spread around the world. Some divide trendsetters into two types:
- The first relate to those that dictate the rules of lifestyle. Such people are in a constant search for new things, often change their appearance and lifestyle, give preference to certain technical innovations. They understand modern trends and always "keep their nose in the wind", ready to quickly join the new stream, or they themselves become a source of fashionable movements. Such people can say with certainty whether this or that thing will be popular, and they are also able to predict the success or failure of a new trend.
- Narrow trendsetters. These people set directions in a particular narrow industry without affecting areas not related to it. They may be less shocking and vivid personalities, but their word and opinion has great weight in one particular area. An example of a trendsetter in the field of technology is Steve Jobs, who gave the world the concept of “smartphone”, without which no modern person can imagine his life.
How to become a trendsetter?
Today, anyone who has acquired the necessary level of popularity can become a trendsetter. It is not necessary for this to be a world famous fashion designer or an authoritative public figure. Actors, musicians, bloggers, sports stars and politicians are trendsetters each in their field.
The popularity of movie stars allows them to dictate fashion trends on their own, if the number of fans allows it. Or, using their fame, manufacturers of clothes, jewelry, perfumes, cars and other things do this, involving TV stars in the advertising of their goods. Human psychology is designed in such a way that we automatically want to have a thing that is recommended or that more successful people simply own. The image of rich and successful Hollywood stars instills in us a desire to acquire expensive things, because it seems to us that in this way we will look better against the background of others and meet high standards.
To be a trendsetter, it is not necessary to have world-wide fame like Madonna and Steve Jobs, because a trendsetter is a person who sets trends, one that others follow. In a small group of friends, there may be someone whose lifestyle or lifestyle is contagious, and there are several people who express a desire to be like him. Today, to take possession of the minds of people, it is enough to be charismatic and differ from the gray masses.
Cosmetics Trendsetters
As mentioned above, there is a trendsetter category that works in a specific narrow area. These areas include cosmetic products. As an example, we can mention distributors of cosmetics. For successful operation, the company conducts market research, anticipating consumer requests. For example, in Russia there are certain zones in which agents of different firms work, they are called trendsetter territories.
As a trendsetter for companies, a cosmetics distributor explores the market and offers products that are guaranteed to be popular in the future. Trendsetters are proactive representatives of network companies. Colorful catalogs and advertising are not only sales methods, but also mechanisms that help to promote a particular trend on the market (which, in turn, of course, also increases sales).
