The idea of creating the work came to A.P. Chekhov, when a familiar artist told him the case of a dog that got into the circus. The story, which was originally called "In the Scientific Society", was published in 1887. Five years later, in 1892, the work “Chestnut” by Chekhov was published with a different name. A young dog, like a fox, is walking with her master along the street. For joy that she was taken with her, she jumps, throws herself at the wagons with a bark, chases after the dogs. A mysterious stranger
The dog dozed off from fatigue near some entrance. Suddenly a stranger came out of there. He took pity on the dog and took it with him. A new, very pleasant acquaintance
Having woken up, Kashtanka goes to examine a new house. Here she meets an old goose and a white cat. The first hisses, the second arches his back, seeing a new inhabitant. Miracles in the Sieve
The stranger brings a strange little thing and begins to do strange tricks with the goose. Aunt is delighted and barks loudly. A pig appears and begins to perform “acrobatic” exercises with the cat and the goose. The goose then rides a pig, then a cat. The day passes for Aunt unnoticed, and in the evening she falls asleep in a room with other animals.
Talent! Talent!
So a whole month goes by. The new owner decides to teach tricks and aunt. She is taught to walk on her hind legs, howl to music and ride a pig. All the tricks that the dog has learned, and not included in the summary. Kashtanka Chekhov is preparing to become an artist.
Restless night
Aunt has disturbing dreams. Suddenly she hears a loud cry of a goose and feels fear. The owner comes. He is alarmed by the state of the goose. Suddenly recalls that a horse stepped on Ivan Ivanovich. The goose is dying. Unclear longing is attacking Aunt. The experiences of a small creature cannot fit the summary. Chekhov's chestnut is scared of the sudden death of Ivan Ivanovich.
Unsuccessful debut
The owner decides to take Aunt with him to the circus. The owner puts on a wig and a strange hoodie. The dog is frightened by such a reincarnation of the Stranger. Aunt in a suitcase carry on stage. She begins to perform familiar tricks. But suddenly she hears the familiar voice of Fedyushka, the son of her former master.
