The MTZ-50 wheel tractor belongs to the group of universal row-row machines and to the traction class of 1.4 tons. In the Soviet years, this model was used everywhere for performing both agricultural, industrial and construction works. The manufacturer of this machine is the Minsk Tractor Plant.
A bit of history
The first MTZ-50 tractor came off the assembly line in 1962. This model was produced and delivered to Russia until 1985. Since that time, MTZ has produced limited quantities of such machines, mainly for export. Today, the Minsk plant produces a modified analogue of this model - “Belarus-500”.

In operation, the MTZ-50 tractor, the scheme of which is presented below, for almost 60 years of operation proved to be just fine. It is not surprising, because its technical characteristics are really good.
The skeleton of this machine is formed by a half-frame, welded from two channels and a beam, a clutch, a rear axle and a gearbox. The engine is fixed in front. Also on the beam are oil and water radiators, power steering and shutters. The hydraulic system in this model is separate and modular. The machine is equipped with disc brakes and a manual gearbox.
The fuel tank is located behind the tractor driver’s seat, and the enclosed cabin itself is attached to the wings of the wheels. Windows at MTZ-50 are very large and provide excellent visibility. To illuminate the road at night, four lights are installed on the machine.

What modifications exist
On the basis of the MTZ-50 tractor, once the Minsk Tractor Plant produced several modifications. The machine with the "K" index in the marking was designed by MTZ together with engineers from Tbilisi. Its distinctive feature is increased stability on the slopes.
To work in the vineyards, a modification of 50V was once used, and in rice fields - 50P. The 50H machine differs from the base diameter of the wheels and low clearance.
If we compare MTZ-50 with modern brands of tractors, of course, it will definitely reveal some shortcomings. However, all of them are more than overlapped by the cheapness of this model, ease of use and reliability. The modern analogue “Belarus 500” is also very good in characteristics. If necessary, you can buy not a used Soviet tractor, but a new, no less productive and reliable model.
