Types of control and their features during implementation

Any organization or enterprise consists of people who fulfill their professional duties and carry out the development of the company. The job hierarchy of the organization implies the presence in it of a link of managers, and those whose work is controlled by managers, i.e. subordinates. Since the human factor plays an important role in the performance of many tasks, it becomes necessary to control the employee. For this, the responsible manager can observe the work process, prompt, help or even come to the time when the task has already been completed.

Why do I need control in the organization

First of all, employees need control so that they work efficiently. Secondly, it is especially necessary in those cases when a subordinate had problems when solving a problem, and the manager should help him solve them in order to achieve a good result.

There are several types of control, and the right one of them can be a good non-financial motivation for employees.

How to control staff

First you need to evaluate the specifics of the task that was assigned to the employee. Then remember what skills, experience and personal qualities a subordinate has. And finally, to understand what is more important in this situation: the result or the execution process itself? The fact is that there are a number of instructions that are focused only on the outcome, and how the employee will go towards this goal does not matter. In this case, it is necessary to apply certain types of control, which are described below. There are other assignments that are oriented to ensure that the task goes in a certain way: according to the scheme, instructions, or simply at the request of the boss, because he is a professional and knows exactly how to succeed in business, and if he considers it important to accomplish a task in certain ways, then other types of control are needed.

Let's look at the types of control:

Periodic

In this case, the manager at the same time with the same interval (for example, at 8:00, every Wednesday or the last Friday of each month) comes to the employee and checks how he is able to do the work and finds out what difficulties he encountered and was able to overcome them.

This method has the advantage that both know when and what time the test will be carried out, but, on the other hand, it takes a lot of time. It is used to maintain the workflow and it is better not to apply this type of control for tasks where only the result is important.

Types of control for results oriented tasks

The final control is needed in order to check the result and give it an assessment. It is carried out once and coincides with the time of execution.

This method saves time, but it is better to use it as a control for those employees who have managed to prove their competence and professionalism.

At the same time, if the manager is not sure that the contractor correctly understood the task, then the use of one final control puts the whole thing at risk.

Types of control for tasks with phased execution

Projects requiring control points require the phased participation of the manager. Often this method is used if the case is entrusted to an experienced employee, and it differs in scale, novelty and a high level of complexity. This minimizes the risk of failure.

Types of control convenient for the head

In this case, the employee does not know when the boss will check him. The latter at the same time arbitrarily chooses the time and frequency of such checks, and this is very convenient for him, because the schedule does not oblige to be at a specific time in a particular place.

But along with this, such a check causes great discomfort to employees, as they begin to distrust the manager, stress occurs due to unexpectedness. To mitigate the situation, it is best to do selective control immediately for all employees.

With all types of control, it is very important to be able to correctly and calmly convey to employees what they are doing right and what not.
