The company "Asus" does not cease to please the news of its fans. About six months ago, the brand released a new 750th line, which can rightly be attributed to the multimedia series. All models are available with a diagonal of 17.3 inches and are assembled on the basis of Intel processors with the well-proven Haswell architecture.
Consider the most striking representative of the line - the Asus N750J laptop : specifications, design, ergonomics and autonomy. The opinions of experts and reviews of ordinary owners of the device will be taken into account.
Completeness
The laptop comes in a factory and relatively bulky package with a pen that has a traditional design for Asus and the N-series. Moreover, the bulkiness is explained by a large amount of unallocated space - in empty box-inserts, air and everything. Owners of the Asus N750J have repeatedly expressed bewilderment in this regard in their reviews.
The device itself is packed in a fabric envelope, and next to it you can see a 120 W charger (6.32 A) and a nice external subwoofer. There is also a warranty card, a cloth for cleaning the screen, a short manual to get started, Velcro for twisting cables and detailed instructions in Russian for Asus N750J (restoring factory settings, causes, consequences and troubleshooting, detailed specifications, etc.) .
Configuration
The filling can change along with the price tag on a laptop: only processors, RAM and a hard drive vary. In our case, we will consider the most optimal model in terms of price / performance ratio - Asus N750J i7-4700HQ (MQ) in combination with Intel's 86 chipset with a clock frequency of 2.4 GHz (in Turbo boost mode, you can increase it to 3, 4 GHz).
The size of the third level cache is 6 megabytes with a processor TDP of 47 watts. For the video streams, the relatively powerful integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 with a base frequency of 400 MHz with the ability to overclock to 1.2 GHz is responsible, which, judging by user reviews, is a very good option for a laptop.
In addition to the integrated video chip, the Asus N750J laptop is equipped with a discrete card from Nvidia in the face of the GeForce GT 750M series with 4 GB of memory. Some users in their reviews complain about GDDR3 memory, which does not fully reveal the capabilities of the processor, but, nevertheless, this card relates to gaming solutions.
RAM
There are two slots for installing RAM . It is not clear what the manufacturer was guided by during the assembly, but almost all models with i7 received an 8 GB bar in one slot and 4 GB in the other, from different suppliers (Hynix and Kingston). Accordingly, the slats cannot work in two-channel mode, but the difference in performance in our case is minimal and not noticeable to the human eye.
HDD
What pleased many Asus N750J owners - the characteristics of the hard drive, namely two terabytes of hard drives. These are new 2.5-inch samples from Seagate with a thickness of 9.5 mm on the SATA 2 interface (3 Gb / s). The only thing that upsets a little is the lack of BIOS technical ability to configure disks in a RAID array, so you have to use hard drives as two separate devices.
Design
The Asus N750J case is completely metal, and the cover is made of high-quality aluminum. The laptop itself is painted gray with a bronze tint. You can’t name the matte surface, the fingerprints, although they remain, are practically not noticeable, and they are removed quite simply, so the device will not look like a stained one in any (reasonable) case. In the center of the lid you can see the Asus brand logo, which is beautifully highlighted if the laptop is turned on.
The bottom of the Asus N750J is painted black and looks unshakable. There is a ventilation grill and fixing screws. It is worth noting that the manufacturer did everything so that the owner could not independently open the device cover, equipping it with special screws for a Torx branded screwdriver, which, incidentally, is not so easy to find. Many owners of the device in their reviews harass the designers for such "prudence", but everything is decided after the purchase of the aforementioned screwdriver.
The working surface is made in a stylish silver color, coupled with the keys themselves, and the screen frame is made of pretty attractive black plastic with a webcam at the top. The surface is matte, so fingerprints are difficult to leave. At the top of the working area, you can see only two buttons: power on / off and a programmable key to quickly launch applications. All LED indicators (5 pieces), which reflect the current state of the Asus N750J, are placed on the front edge (directly under the touchpad), therefore they are easily visible even with the lid closed.
The screen is attached to the working surface with a long hinge loop, which runs through almost the entire body. This allows you to deflect the screen relative to the housing up to 150 degrees. The loop has a relatively tight stroke, so the user has the opportunity to fix the screen in any position convenient for him.
Interfaces
On the left side of the laptop, you can see two USB ports of type 3.0, an HDMI connector, an RJ-45 standard Internet port, a mini-display connector, a memory card slot and an outlet for connecting a charger. It is worth noting? that the specific RJ-45 Internet connector has a hidden cover, which allowed designers to make the laptop case even thinner.
On the right side of the device are a couple of USB connectors of the third version, two audio outputs (mini-jacks) for headphones with a microphone, an interface for connecting a subwoofer, an optical drive and a Kensington lock. Some users complain in their reviews that there is no specific blue marking on the USB ports of the third series, confusing them with the previous generation, but this is a matter of habit, so it’s difficult to write down this downside.
Screen
The device is equipped with a Chinese matrix Chi Mei N173HGE based on white LEDs. Some official representatives of the company write in the specification that the laptop has an IPS scan, but in fact it is not, the NxHGE series refers to the TN type of matrix, so do not fall for the marketing tricks of online stores.
The laptop has a 17.3-inch diagonal screen with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels with standard indicators of brightness, contrast and overall color saturation. It should be noted right away that the touch screen announced at the presentation exhibition was never installed by the designers, so do not flatter yourself - the screen is ordinary, matte with anti-reflective coating.
Offline work
To test the autonomy of the device, two scenarios are provided: working with text, a photo and a network, along with watching video in HD format. The power mode is set to “Balanced”, and the brightness is set by default.
In the first case, the laptop worked for about five and a half hours, and in the second scenario it lasted for more than three hours. We can say that the indicator of battery life is at a high level.
Summarizing
The laptop has a productive filling from Intel and Nvidia, coupled with a solid supply of RAM and a place to store data (2 TB). And although the manufacturer positions the model as a multimedia laptop, due to its high performance it can be used as a mid-level gaming device. That is, in fact, a laptop is a full-fledged option to replace a stationary computer, and this is one of the critical factors in choosing personal equipment.
Here you can add a good screen, excellent sound, good battery life and a relatively low (for a segment) price - about 60 thousand rubles (spring 2016). You can recommend the model to anyone who does not regret a good and high-quality thing of that kind of money.
