Slavia Prague is a football club based in the Czech capital and playing in the top division of the local championship. The Prague collective is one of the oldest (founded at the end of the 19th century) and titled in the country. The club holds home games at the Eden Arena stadium.
History
Paradoxically, the medical university students became the founders of the club, and initially it was a society of cyclists. At the junction of the 19th and 20th centuries, a football section appeared in the club. The local team quite easily won the debut match, but with the second match in its history, against the Prague Sparta, hostility is connected, which continues to this day. But the thing is the unfairly unscored goal of the “people's team”, which resulted in contention between the fans of both clubs.
A new surge in the development of the club’s history was the appointment of Scottish manager John Madden as head coach, a vision of football and tactics that allowed the team from the Czech capital to reach a new level. It should be noted that the “new broom” was chalked in a new way for 25 years, and this period of time was called the “Golden Age” of Prague. It is only natural that the main backbone of the Czechoslovak national team of those times was precisely the Slavia players.
The post-war years for the team were characterized by a crisis that dragged on for more than ten years. In 1951, the team took eleventh place for the first time in its history, which meant that Slavia Prague would spend the next season in the division a lower class. The team flew out several more times, and the capital club managed to regain its leadership position only in 1966.
For almost half a century Slavia Prague won its first champion title only in 1996. Is it necessary to remind that the case was already in a completely different country? In the same year, the Prague team managed to reach the semifinals of the UEFA Cup and this is the club’s greatest achievement in the European arena in the history of its existence.
"Slavia Prague": composition and prospects
In the 2016-2017 season, the team of Yaroslav Schilgava triumphed in the national championship, which means that the Czech team earned the right to play in the most prestigious tournament of the Old World in the next football year. “Slavia” will definitely have a hard time, because now you have to play on three fronts. Whether it is a Prague team or not, only time will tell.
It should be noted that both the head coach of the capital’s grand and the club president responsibly approached the team’s return to European competition and invited some strong newcomers to the team. Moreover, such a move is definitely perceived as reinforcing the Champions League, because the players signed long before the start of the new championship, so that they went with the team full pre-season training camps. We note the transfers of experienced Khalil Altıntop, Miguel Danny, as well as a trio from the Ukrainian Premier League: Jan Lashtuvka, Ruslan Rotan and young Eduard Sobol. In addition, FC Slavia Prague in all positions is equipped with strong players with Czech passports. In favor of Schilgava and the company, the fact that the Czech team may remain underestimated by European giants, while with such a composition of the team, has a very high potential, also speaks in favor of Schilgava and the company.
Stadium
At the Eden Arena, he holds home fights not only for Slavia Prague, but also for the Czech national team. The capacity of the arena is 21 thousand spectators and it is the largest stadium in the Czech Republic. Hosted the Eden Arena and world-class matches. So, for example, in 2013 there was a duel of the European Super Cup, in which the London “Chelsea” and the Munich “Bavaria” took part.
