The Vargashinsky Fire and Special Equipment Plant (VZPPSO) is one of the pioneers in the production of fire engines in the USSR. It is based on the capacities of the Novotorzh plant, evacuated in 1941 to the Kurgan region. In different years, the share of the company's products reached 30% of fire fighting equipment manufactured in the country.
Description
In Russia, there are more than a dozen engineering factories producing fire fighting equipment. The enterprise in Vargashi is not the last among them. In the 2000s, the share of VZPPSO in this market segment was 30-35%. The global recession that followed after 2008 led to a drop in demand and a gradual decline in production. Nevertheless, thanks to a modern production line, the Vargashinsky plant is capable of producing highly functional fire fighting vehicles.
Among the customers of the plant:
- Organizations of the Ministries of Defense, Internal Affairs, Natural Resources, Ministry of Emergencies, law enforcement agencies, and security services.
- Rosenergoatom Concern.
- Manufacturing engineering, metallurgy, forestry.
- Oil and gas sector enterprises.
- Airports of Samara, Kirov, Penza, Orenburg, Yakutsk, Krasnoyarsk and other cities.
Historical reference
Serial production of fire trucks in our country began after the development of the production of the first Soviet trucks at the Moscow AMO plant (later renamed ZIL). Since the 20s, some engineering plants have been reoriented to the assembly of fire fighting equipment. In 1925, the production of fire rulers on the AMO-F-15 chassis began at the Miussky factory. Since 1926, similar equipment was manufactured by the Leningrad enterprise Promet.
In 1939, the production of PMG-1 fire engines based on the GAZ-AA car began at the Novotorzh plant. No sooner had the company gained momentum than in 1941 it had to be urgently evacuated beyond the Urals - to the settlement of Vargashi, Kurgan Region. Since the beginning of the war, fire trucks were not produced, factories were reoriented to the production of defense products. In particular, in Vargashi they made the necessary buildings for air bombs. Workers did their best to bring victory closer. Instead of the planned 150 products, about 200 pieces were produced per shift.
Instead of bombs - fire engines
With the improvement of the situation on the fronts, many enterprises returned to the production of peaceful products. Particularly acute was the lack of specialized fire fighting equipment . In 1944, the Vargashinsky fire-fighting and special equipment plant, created on the basis of the evacuated workshops of the Novotorzh plant, began to produce PMZ-7 tankers on the ZIS-5V chassis with the PN-1200 pump located in front, a gas-jet vacuum apparatus and a 60-liter foam generator tank.
In 1947, the company switched to the production of PMZ-8 fire tankers on the ZIS-5V chassis, equipped with an enclosed double-row cabin for combat crew. Since 1956, the Vargashinsky Special Equipment Plant focused on the production of fire trucks on the UAZ and GAZ chassis. In 1966, on the GAZ-53 chassis, the production of AT-30 (53) model 106 tank trucks began here. In 1981, VZPPSO mastered the manufacture of the AT-30 (66) model 184 forest fire truck on the GAZ-66 chassis.
Wide opportunities
In urban environments, light and middle class fire engines have proven their best. Their characteristics are determined by the size (respectively - capacity) of water tanks or foam converters. Their task is to get to the source of ignition as quickly as possible and to start fire extinguishing promptly until heavy tankers arrive or fire hoses are connected to hydrants. In this class, the Vargashinsky fire and special equipment plant produces tanks with a capacity of 1 to 4 m 3 .
Recently, VZPPSO paid attention to heavy tankers capable of transporting 5-8 m 3 of water. However, this class of equipment was not widely used in fire departments. The bulky car has a low speed (due to the possibility of a water hammer), maneuvers with difficulty in narrow courtyards and city lanes. In addition, they are expensive. Heavy tankers are used as object fire engines designed to extinguish fires at aerodromes, industrial enterprises, warehouses, power plants and other facilities. The plant produces tanks with a volume of 5.7 and 8 m 3 .

Specifications
The Vargashinsky plant, previously specialized in the production of tank trucks exclusively on the UAZ and GAZ chassis, currently produces a wide range of fire tank trucks. FSUE VZPPSO cars are distinguished by the quality of special equipment. The plant has mastered the production of 1-stage fire pumps NPC-40/100 of models 68 and 236, curtain doors, fire ladders, crowbars, keys and hooks.
Cabs for special vehicles are made double-row, four-door (on the 4AVR model - single-row, two-door), welded, thermo-noise-insulated. On the models ZVR and 8VR, the two-row cab manufactured by ZIL is equipped with an additional heater for heating the second row. On cars of the 4, 11 and 25 series, double-row cabins of our own manufacture using the cab sections of the GAZ and Ural vehicles, which are an all-metal panel-type structure that is rigidly connected to the driverβs cab. On tank trucks on the KAMAZ chassis, a combat crew cabin separate from the driverβs cabin is pivotally mounted on the car frame in front of the fire superstructure.
An important element is a fire pump. A centrifugal 1-stage pump NPTs-40/100 of console type with a nominal fluid flow of 40 l / s and a pressure of 100 m is used as the main one.
By order can be installed:
- FP 2500 pump with a feed of 40 l / s;
- fire monitor SM-15V with electric joystick control from the cockpit;
- retractable lighting mast with pneumatic drive;
- rubberized butterfly valve system company Sides (France) and other accessories.
Fire fighting equipment
VZPPSO regularly develops a new and improves the old model range of special equipment. Factory products include:
- Fire trucks of all classes, based on the chassis "Ural", "Iveco", GAZ, KamAZ, ZIL.
- Various types of cars: high-altitude, pump-tubing, staff, aerodrome, SPECL, for powder extinguishing, smoke removal, first aid, warning and communication, maintaining law and order.
- Forestry machines.
- Pumping fire stations.
- Autohydraulic lifts.
The Vargashinsky fire and special equipment plant also repairs fire pumps, tanks, water lines, transmissions, cabins and fire superstructures. It will also help to apply plating, repaint the body.
Prospects
After the suspension of production VZPPSO was on the verge of bankruptcy. In the summer of 2016, businessman Vladimir Voronyansky acquired 100% of the shares and paid off most of the debts. In the fall, the company began to fulfill an order for 18 special vehicles. Kazakhstan acquired several heavy tankers for airports. Great hopes are laid on the state contract for fire equipment designed to serve the world football championship in 2018.
Today, about 350 people work at the Vargashinsky plant. The well-being of residents of the urban village of Vargashi depends on the work of the enterprise.
