Where do bananas, tangerines and pistachios grow?

It will seem strange to modern young people that a generation born in the 50s and 60s of the last century did not know such tasty things as bananas and pistachios in their childhood. At least to most. Here are the tangerines - yes! Not a single new year could do without them.

Today, bananas have become one of the most beloved delicacies. Doctors and nutritionists even recommend introducing them into baby food almost the first product, they are so useful. But, unfortunately, neither pistachios, nor tangerines, nor bananas grow in our country.

But at school, sometimes they ask children such tasks, where you need to know the exact answer to the question, where do bananas grow?

Somehow the student is a daughter

Suddenly she asked mom:

“Maybe you can help me?”

Where do bananas grow?

- We will not make mistakes, -

Mom answers, -

- Both bananas and pistachios

Ripen in hot countries!

Indeed, the birthplace of bananas is Malaysia. This state is located in Southeast Asia. Although it does not lag behind Malaysia in the production and consumption of bananas and Africa.

During the excavations in Thebes, records were found on the walls of ancient buildings that can be attributed to banana production instructions. The Egyptians sacredly believed in the healing power of bananas, and in Asia they were generally considered sacred. Some Indian pagodas still have banana shaped roofs.

Mostly we know yellow bananas. But where are the bananas of red, golden and black flowers? This question, perhaps, will be more complicated. Not everyone knows that only in the Seychelles you can enjoy these exotic side dishes served with seafood.

But the most interesting fact concerning the answer to the question posed: “Where do bananas grow?” Is that bananas do not grow on palm trees at all, as many people think! And in general, they do not even ripen on a tree, because this plant is considered by botanists to be grass.

Yes, bananas are a giant grass with a tree-type stem, and its fruits are berries, not fruits! After seed ripening, the plant dies, which is never the case with trees. But almost immediately from the root, a little off from the previous place, another plant begins to grow. And this happens all the time, as a result of which the "banana palm" moves. Here on such a “walking tree" grow bananas familiar to all of us today.

You can’t grow bananas at home, because those varieties that are imported to us do not have seeds. In addition, bananas require pollination by bats of a certain type, which are extremely rare. Today, pollination of bananas is done by plant growers manually and requires special adaptations and skills.

But as for the tangerines, then our compatriots have achieved some success in their "domestication." Some lovers have adapted to grow them indoors or in greenhouses. Of course, the resulting fruits are not as tasty as those that are ripe in their homeland.

And then a counter question arises: where do mandarins grow in nature? Considered the birthplace of mandarins China. From there, they were brought to all other countries. And since tangerines are not as whimsical as the rest of the southern plants, very soon the area of their growth has expanded significantly.

Greece and Turkey, Spain and Italy “tamed” this beautiful tree that yields tasty and fragrant orange fruits.

Spain “gave” tangerines to Morocco, and Turkey - to Georgia. Today they grow already in France, and in Algeria, and in Argentina, and in Transcaucasia, and in India, and in Vietnam.

Today they like very tasty and healthy nuts called “pistachios”. They are photophilous and resistant to an arid climate, but they withstand temperatures that drop to -25 degrees. Therefore, pistachios are widespread in the Mediterranean and Asia, as well as in Northeast Africa.

And where are the pistachios growing? It is known that in Central America and Texas there are two species of these nut trees.

Some lovers try to grow pistachios in the middle zone of Russia. But our climate implies a winter temperature that falls much lower than that which this plant can withstand. Therefore, they can be bred only in greenhouses.
