Ulyanovsk, aka former Simbirsk, is located on the banks of the Volka and Sviyaga rivers, occupies one of the most significant places in the manufacturing and engineering industries. The UAZ plant famous in all of Russia in Ulyanovsk is not the only one that contributes to the development of the country's production potential.
In the city there are conveyors specializing in the production of passenger and cargo aircraft, the manufacture of devices and
metalworking machines. The enterprises of the military-industrial complex are also active.
Manufacture of cars and aircraft
The most significant place in the industry of the city is Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant.
It was formed in 1942 as a result of the evacuation of equipment from the Moscow Automobile Plant. In the country, more than 60% of all buses and about 10% of trucks were produced by UAZ conveyor lines. Currently, the plant produces:
- All-wheel drive SUVs UAZ Patriot, Hunter and Pickup.
- Commercial vehicles UAZ Cargo, UAZ 3962, UAZ 2206 and other models.
Aviastar-SP OJSC and the SE Mars Scientific and Production Association are the most significant factories in Ulyanovsk. The first specializes in the production of Tu-204 series cargo aircraft and the famous An-124-100 Ruslan passenger airliner. The productive capacity of the aircraft factory allows it to produce up to 50 pieces of equipment annually.
Metal sector organizations
Ulyanovsk metalworking plants occupy a special place in the industry of the city, for they produce metal products that are popular throughout the country, as well as are developing new processing machines. A concrete example is the Ulyanovsk NIAT, in whose workshops they produce roll forming equipment using the technology of tight bending.
Among the most significant organizations is KPP Detail-Service LLC, which specializes in the processing of metal blanks and the creation of shafts, hubs, ratchets and mechanism parts. The company carries out a full cycle of work - from metal forging to heat treatment of finished products.
When listing the factories of Ulyanovsk, one cannot fail to mention the branch of INPROM OJSC, the largest Belarusian producer of metal rolling. The company works both with private customers and with wholesale buyers.
Enterprises of the military-industrial complex
NPO Mars made the most tangible contribution to the defense industry. Printed circuit boards, microcircuits, modules, other electronic products and computer technology of the scientific center are successfully implemented in automation tools of the Russian Navy.
One of the most significant enterprises of the city is a mechanical plant (Ulyanovsk). UMP specializes in the production of radar detection systems and air defense systems. On the territory of the plant were developed:
- Anti-aircraft complex "Shilo".
- Anti-aircraft missile launchers Tunguska, Kvadrat, Buk.
- Radio systems "Orion", "Shell", "Hunting".
Currently, the UMZ scientific department is conducting research to improve its products, as well as producing military equipment and devices commissioned by the country's Ministry of Defense and for export.
Production of building materials
A prominent representative of the construction industry of the city is Ulyanovsk Reinforced Concrete Products Plant-1 OJSC, which has been operating since the 55s of the last century. Now there are several workshops on the territory of the factory, and products are delivered not only to all construction sites within the city, but also to neighboring regions - Samara, Tatarstan, Udmurtia, Mordovia.
Mentioning the construction factories of Ulyanovsk, one cannot ignore the CJSC Ulyanovsk Combine of Building Materials. He is one of the oldest representatives of the industry in the country. In its workshops, brick, sand-cement mixes, expanded clay products and other building materials are used, which are used in construction throughout the Volga region.
