Unfortunately, the “ten”, despite loud statements, has become “revolutionary” in the completely opposite direction, in particular, after updating Windows 10, the Internet does not work. Such cases are a fairly common occurrence. Let's try to consider several possible causes and methods for eliminating such failures.
Internet stopped working after updating Windows 10: crash options
To begin with, the “ten”, although it has a lot of innovations and advantages compared to older systems, nevertheless very often contributes to the fact that the Internet connection settings just “fly off”. In addition, the automatic installation of device drivers (in our case, network) is not its strongest place.
In general, you can consider several options for which problems appear:
- After upgrading to Windows 10, the Internet does not work ;
- a crash occurs after updating the “tens” itself;
- Problems are related to the mobile version of Windows 10.
We will consider each case separately, although the general recommendations for eliminating such problems are, in general, very similar.
Internet does not work after updating Windows 10: main reasons for computers and laptops
Indeed, in many computer systems, where the seventh and eighth versions were previously used as the "OSes", after upgrading to the "dozens" there are connection problems. This mainly concerns cases when a Wi-Fi connection is used, although sometimes you can even see the disappearance of the network adapter from the “Device Manager”. This, most likely, is connected with the drivers, because the most probable situation is when the hardware manufacturer has not yet released a driver for a non-standard device designed specifically for Windows 10 (but this is very rare).
An equally common problem, when after updating to Windows 10 the Internet does not work via WiFi, is a “gathering” of settings, both in the system and on the router.
Another reason is incompatible with the "top ten" programs that are not designed to work in this environment despite all the developers' statements that Windows 10 will support all applications installed on the system earlier. But more on that later.
Finally, if the user sees that after updating Windows 10 the Internet does not work on the phone, most likely the problem is not in the device, namely in the router through which access to the network is made. The only exceptions are mobile gadgets on which the tenth mobile version of Windows Phone is installed.
We note right away: problems associated with malfunctioning cables or rebooting computers, laptops, routers, mobile devices or disabling / enabling the Wi-Fi module will not be considered now.
Driver issues
So, consider the case of drivers. If the user does not see the wireless adapter in the device list, or the device is marked in yellow, you can try to install the equipment manually.
Let's start with the second option. If there is an installation disk with drivers, then everything is simple. Choosing a non-working device in the context menu, you can do two things: request a driver update automatically from the system database or install the driver from disk. It’s better to choose the second one, since it may not be in the database of the necessary drivers. After that, during the update process, we simply indicate the path to the folder on the optical medium or flash drive, where these drivers are, and install. If the system spits, you will have to search for the latest driver version on the Internet from another terminal, and then install it manually.
If the device is not in the dispatcher, use the new hardware installer. In most cases, the system finds all devices, even those disabled in the BIOS. If the equipment is detected, you can use the automatic driver installation. Even if a standard driver is installed, which for some reason is not suitable for the network adapter, at least the device itself should appear in the list. Next, proceed as described above.
In the most extreme case, if the files of the previous system were not deleted, you can return to it.
Removing Updates
Quite often, the problem arises after updating the “dozens” itself, although it was initially assumed that new updates for Windows 10 would not be released.
In this case, you first need to try to roll back (restore the system) to the time point when the problem appeared. After that, you can try to disable the update altogether so that the updates are simply not installed. On the other hand, doing this is undesirable. Therefore, it is better to go to the installed updates section and try to delete them one at a time, followed by rebooting the terminal after each uninstall.
As soon as the system works normally, you need to block the desired update using the manual search for available updates and unchecking the installation line. After that, you can turn on the automatic update again.
Antivirus and firewall settings
Sometimes, after updating Windows 10, the Internet does not work just because of incorrect firewall settings and the current update of the anti-virus program modules.
What to do in such a situation (after all, there is no Internet)? First, you can turn off both the firewall and the anti-virus scanner, and then look at the system’s performance. Sometimes it may be necessary to either update the antivirus software, or simply download the latest version from the Internet using a different terminal, and then repeat the installation.
Software Incompatibility
Another reason is the presence of incompatible with the “top ten” programs in the system. We are not talking about application software. Most often, these are all kinds of optimizers, accelerators, cleaners, etc., which can limit access to the World Wide Web due to conflicts.
As a simplest solution, the usual uninstallation of software products of this type is suitable, especially since until recently only a few optimizers got along with the “top ten”. Not the fact that outdated software will take root in the new system.
Router and TCP / IP Protocol Settings
Sometimes you have to rebuild the router. In this case, you need to use the settings provided by the provider, and pay attention to the region settings.
Alternatively, you can try to register the IP address manually, specify four eights through the dot for the preferred DNS server, and two eights and two fours through the dot through the dot.
Problems with mobile devices
Finally, if after updating Windows 10 the Internet does not work on a mobile device (for example, a Lumia smartphone), where “ten” is used as the main OS, the reason for the failure may be that the “OS” itself may have been installed incorrectly, maybe , an unofficial version of Windows was installed, or a normal system was put on top of an unofficial firmware. But you never know what.
In this case, it is best to reset to factory settings when the previous system was on the device, and try to reinstall the "top ten" again, after downloading the distribution kit from an official source (Upgrade Advisor or Windows Insider application).
If the update was performed automatically, you need to check the correctness of the Wi-Fi settings and the correctness of the input of your Microsoft account. If all kinds of mobile optimizers were used, it is better to remove them, and antiviruses - update or reinstall.
Alternatively, you can change the proxy port settings directly on the phone, registering two eights and two sevens in it through the point, and use the address of the computer or laptop through which the Internet connection is made to them as IP. Then in Internet Explorer on the phone in the line enter the IP address with the addition of the port, and then install the certificate.
Now start Windows Insider and install the updates, after which we return to the Wi-Fi settings and turn off the proxy. We again go into the application and use Insider Fast from the Get Preview Build section. Further, we agree with all the conditions, followed by a reboot. Now it remains only to check for updates in the settings menu provided that the battery charge is at least 30%. When the check and installation is over, you can rejoice, there will be no problems.
Epilogue
Here we consider the most common situations associated with the loss of communication after installing or updating the “tens”. As for mobile gadgets that use systems other than Windows, the problem is most likely not in the device, but in access via routers. But, as practice shows and user reviews say, the most likely problem is the situation with incorrect installation of drivers or using their outdated versions that are not designed for the Windows 10 software environment.
