A small hearth is a camellia

From time immemorial, a home has been considered a symbol of warmth and coziness in a house. He warms in the cold of the owners and gives them hot and tasty food. We are used to taking a stove or a fireplace for the hearth, but is there anything else that can warm us in the cold? Of course, this is also a camel, the "younger brother" of the fireplace among the peoples of the north.

In fact, a camellia is a small fireplace or stove for heating a small space of the home of the indigenous inhabitants of Yakutia. Most often it was installed in booth yurts. These are such houses built of thin wood with a diameter of 10-12 cm in the form of a small hut. It was in such dwellings that a cameo was installed. What was so special about nomadic tribes in this simple construction?

First of all, it's worth talking about the dwelling in which the cameraman was being built. The yurt-booth was built in the form of a trapezoid or a truncated pyramid. All logs were placed obliquely to the frame, then all this was carefully smeared with clay mixed with manure, holes were left for future windows.

The Kamelek has the appearance of a small oiled fireplace, because during the construction of more solid dwellings it became necessary to close open fire so that the smoke would be pulled out into the street through a chimney. Smeared with clay, like the yurt-booth itself, the camellia from a wide base goes upward at a strong angle, gradually turning into a pipe, which was called welas among the Yakut people. Firewood is laid vertically in the hearth, on the side there is a place for drying clothes and a shelf for kitchen utensils. This design very quickly heats the room, since the hearth is open. But just as quickly, the room cools down, it only needs to go out. Therefore, people around the clock kept the fire in the stove. The place next to this cozy "stove" was considered the best. The owners of the house and the most honored guests were usually located here.
