How do you feel about masks? Psychologists say that when a person covers his face, he symbolically relieves himself of responsibility for the acts done. Therefore, when bandits use, for example, hats drilled in appropriate places, it is no accident. But we will talk, of course, about more pleasant things, although not far from the criminals. We are concerned with the question of what is a mask. We’ll analyze it today.
Origin
The paradox of interpretation is that the tonality of the word seems obviously understandable to us. For example, the object of study clearly carries some negative meaning. But probably this is an illusion. Since until we know the meaning of the word “mask”, it is difficult for us to say anything about its tonality and emotional pole. For example, do you know that “crypt” in Polish is a “store”? And say the same word to the Russian, he probably has his hair moving. Therefore, everything is relative.
So our object of study is derived from the “face” and is borrowed from the Old Slavonic. The “face” itself does not carry any negative meaning in itself, if you do not add various adjectives to it. But the mask is another question. Yes, they forgot to say that “face” is a “face” (tired and tall).
Value
Immediately, as a life-giving source, we rush to the explanatory dictionary, and there:
- Same as mask (in the first value). Outdated at the moment.
- Hypocritical behavior, pretense (book and figurative).
We know enough about the mask. There was even such a film with Jim Carrey back in 1994. But how often do we look in the dictionary to check the meaning of a word? This case cannot be missed. We decipher the first meaning of the word “mask”: “A special overlay that hides the face (sometimes with the image of a human face or animal muzzle), with cutouts for the eyes.” It’s so long. But the "mask" is much shorter. There are words that, it seems, we cannot explain more readily than they are. If a person gets into such a situation, then he will always be helped out by an explanatory dictionary that can determine a huge number of words. True, it cannot be said that his wording is chased.
suggestions
For this section, it is important to recall the expression “under the guise”. It means the following: use something as an excuse, when the true motives are completely different. Let's illustrate the values of the object of study and expression with sentences:
- Imagine, he came to me under the guise of an emergency and began to ask for money for an apartment when he found out that I won a million dollars! Although I know that he recently bought a car!
- At the ball, Marina put on a mask of a fox, and in the old way, a mask. This image perfectly characterized her nature.
- Nothing, I would only have to gather evidence and I will tear off the vile guise of a sage and benefactor of young scientists. I know that through his fund he launders money. True, I just can’t back up the allegations with facts, so I’m silent for now.
Yes, a “mask” is an unpleasant noun. But there is no need to be afraid of him, because, as Vladimir Sorokin said, these are just words on paper.
