What is a message? Meaning and Interpretation

Recently, this word has been forgotten, but not so long ago it was very popular. Here and there it was heard: “What is the main message?” This is what we will analyze today. And at the same time we learn the difference between the meaning of this word in America and in Russia. It cannot be said that the content of the object of study under the conditions of Russian reality has mutated, but it differs from the original.

What is this message?

The most logical way to start is with translation options. English is famous for the fact that it sometimes has a myriad of meanings in words. Of course, this is some exaggeration, but very small. So, open the English-Russian dictionary and read the possible translation options:

  • message;
  • letter;
  • message;
  • idea;
  • sermon;
  • report;
  • commission;
  • inquiry.

There are other options, but enough of these to understand the semantic meaning of the word. And at one time, people picked up and used quite actively tracing paper from the English "message". What is this in this case? For the most part, it was used as a synonym for the word “idea” or “main idea”. That is, a person speaks on television or on the street, and you, for example, recently came up and asked: “And what, in fact, is the message?” Of course, you may not be understood, then you can reformulate: "What is the speaker talking about, what is the main idea?"

Of course, I wonder why suddenly this word became popular, but more on that later. Now it’s more important to know the analogues of the word.

What is this message? As synonyms, you can use the following words and phrases:

  • the basic idea;
  • fundamental meaning;
  • concept;
  • general provisions;
  • main point.

The meaning of the word "message" is now easy to understand.

School as a media environment

The title is provocative, that’s understandable. But imagine that teachers would be super-advanced and allowed to discuss Russian classics in modern slang, which is strongly influenced by the English language. Then the answer in the Russian lesson would be: “The main message of Dostoevsky in the novel“ The Brothers Karamazov ... ”. Probably, many were surprised, but do not worry, teachers of the Russian language do not allow such words to be included in speech.

Where do borrowings come from?

But, as you understand, in the journalistic environment they do not so strictly monitor the purity of the Russian language, therefore it is from the media that we draw more and more borrowings. For example, Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin often used foreign words in his works. For example, there are borrowings necessary and justified, but there are simply fashionable ones. The former include various scientific terms, and the latter include double words that duplicate Russian counterparts. By the way, as a result, these borrowings from the language nevertheless go away: they do not take root. The same goes for messege. Now many people know that this is a message, but few use this word.

But we still want to express the idea of why such borrowings take place at all. On the one hand, everything rests on the charm of a foreign language, and on the other, on brevity. Just because the English language in one word accumulates many meanings. And in this sense, there are only two wishes - one must observe the measure and not lose the sense of taste.

Let the last paragraph become our message to the reader. The meaning of the noun is no longer to be explained. In fact, there is nothing wrong with borrowing. The main thing is that one language does not harm another. In addition, borrowed foreign words - this is one of the ways to develop the native language.

Words such as messege are a definite result of relations between different nations, professional communities, and countries. In the Russian language, borrowings differ in volume and character; they allow you to track the history of the literary language and dialects. Modern spoken Russian is enriched if new words are used in speech that can replace familiar ones. However, everything should be in moderation.
