Judeophobia is a synonym for anti-Semitism. A phenomenon that has become widespread in many countries of the world. Throughout the existence of mankind, anti-Semitism was relevant. Today it continues to exist, as evidenced by numerous facts.
Judeophobia: meaning and origin of the word
The word comes from a combination of Latin judaeus (Jew) and Greek phobos (fear). It denotes pathological, developing into a paronoidal hatred of persons of Jewish nationality, Jewish symbols and culture. Experts say that anti-Semitism is inherent in people who have a sense of inferiority. They overcome their ailment through aggression. Practice also shows that anti-social psychopathic individuals often manifest anti-Semitism.
The word "anti-Semitism" is a feminine noun. Only eight letters. There are five vowels. In the word "anti-Semitism" emphasis is placed on the syllable with the last letter "O".
Anti-Semitism, Anti-Semitism, Xenophobia
One of the forms of manifestation of anti-Semitism is anti-Semitism - national intolerance. It is expressed in a negative attitude towards Jews, both religious and ethnic groups. The phenomenon is based on prejudice and is a form of xenophobia.
Initially, the term “anti-Semitism” was introduced by the German publicist Wilhelm Marr in 1879. He designated his associates as representatives of the "anti-Semitic League." However, according to another version, it belongs to Mikhail Vladik, also a German historian, who introduced his appeal a little earlier, in 1865.
Anti-Semitism (term) is explained by racist ideas that Jews, as representatives of the Semitic race, are biologically incompatible with Europeans, representatives of the Germanic (Aryan race). From the second half of the 19th century, anti-Semitism began to mean enmity and hostility towards persons of Jewish nationality. However, it did not extend to other representatives of the Semitic group - the Arabs.
The history of the word
Very often, the word "anti-Semitism" is used as a synonym for anti-Semitism. Where did it come from? Odessa doctor Leon Pinsker first applied it in his article “Autoemancipation”, written under the influence of Jewish pogroms in Russia in 1881. In it, Pinsker suggests that a negative attitude towards Jews is a hereditary mental illness.
Some scholars believe that the term "anti-Semitism" is a complete synonym for anti-Semitism. So, the scientist Solomon Krapivensky suggests that anti-Semitism is a fear of persons of Jewish nationality. Another researcher, Gennady Kostyrchenko, attributes the phenomenon to domestic anti-Semitism.
Scientific works of the Open University of Israel suggest that anti-Semitism is a historical, traditional hatred of Jews that existed before the emergence of racial anti-Semitism.
Causes of occurrence
In the ancient world, according to the most common opinions, anti-Semitism was caused by the separation of Jews from peoples of other nationalities. This was due to the fact that the faith of the Jewish people (Judaism) is a monotheistic religion, which is based on the assertion that this people was chosen by God.
Jews, as history records, from the very beginning of the formation of this nation and subsequently behaved in a special way. So, living far beyond the borders of their historical homeland - Palestine, they did not lose their cultural identity. Always opposed assimilation. Being in the conditions of a discriminated minority, they did not abandon their “special” role. Even those Jews who held a high position in a particular society did not become followers of the traditions of the indigenous population. Such facts have always provoked a negative attitude towards them outside Palestine.
A significant number of researchers believe that the phenomenon of anti-Semitism (anti-Semitism) is also due to religious reasons. The Jewish nation was recognized as damned, not because it was hostile to everyone else, but because the Jews did not accept Christ. Initially, the Christian faith became hostile to the Jewish religion, since it arose after Christ did not become for the Jews their expected messenger of God - the messiah.
Disease
Modern science gives such a definition of anti-Semitism: it is pathological paranoia, which often grows into a manifestation of hatred of Jews, their culture and lifestyle. It manifests itself in a person who is not self-confident, prefers to overcome his shortcoming by expressing aggression, hatred towards Jews.
Doctors suggest that anti-Semitism is a disease, the cause of which is a situation that happened a long time ago, presumably in childhood. However, its consequences appear gradually over time. It was also found that a person dislikes Jews and everything connected with them, due to being under the influence of adults. At the same time, it is possible that at an early age the person was a constant witness to discussions in her presence of political or nationalist situations in which Jews were exposed in a negative light. At the same time, the reality of the discussed facts, events, rumors was not verified.
Expression Forms
A person who suffers from this ailment is afraid of people of Jewish nationality. It does not accept their culture, customs, historical values, traditions, as well as everything connected with the Jews. Moreover, this negative attitude manifests itself in everything. Such a person sees the enemy in a colleague at work, if he is a Jew. A similar situation exists in relation to neighbors from among persons of a given nationality. When meeting with them, the anti-Semite spoils the mood, the heart begins to beat frequently, perspiration intensifies, hands may become numb or tremble, that is, typical phobia symptoms begin to occur.
At present, anti-Semitism is manifested by the expression of hostility and fear of persons of Jewish nationality, but in the past it represented much more rude, sometimes cruel forms.
So, in pre-revolutionary Russia, Jewish pogroms, various anti-Semitic social political structures belonged to manifestations of anti-Semitism. Representatives of the clergy and culture also distinguished themselves in this field, who took the side of the anti-Semites in public, openly expressing their hostility towards the Jews. The so-called “popular” anti-Semitism, a manifestation of anti-Semitism at the household level, was also widely used.
Symptoms
Persons who suffer from anti-Semitism recognize that their behavior will be perceived by the environment mainly as nationalistic manifestations, rather than expressing signs of panic fear. Such persons are not able to cope with the symptoms, manifestations of the disease (phobia). They are usually accompanied by nausea and hand tremors. Often with exacerbations of anti-Semitism, this is accompanied by pain in the chest area, increased sweating, and there may be facts of involuntary urination. It seems to patients that they are facing someone scary. The Jew who met on his way is the personification of all the worst that can happen to a person. If anti-Semitism leads to a serious condition of the patient, then it is advisable to call doctors. Usually, doctors immediately determine the cause of the attack and stop the disease with sedatives.
Treatment options
Experts argue that individual patients themselves can cope with the manifestations of the disease and completely recover from phobia. The cure is based on the fact that a person understands the irrationality of his fears and fears. However, this is only possible if it is mildly anti-Semitic. If the disease has already passed into the chronic stage, its course is complicated by serious health problems, then the intervention of a psychotherapist and a psychiatrist is required. Good results are obtained with respect to anti-Semites hypnotherapy and psychotherapy.
To eliminate panic attacks, medications can also be used, but they should only be prescribed by specialists.
