In our country, it has historically been established that one of the most important sources of vitamins in the winter season is, of course, cabbage, especially sauerkraut. White cabbage, the cultivation and care of which should be especially careful, is mandatory in the beds of the vast majority of household plots and summer cottages. At the same time, early cabbage rightfully enjoys widespread popularity among gardeners. However, it is she who is able to deliver a lot of problems, especially in cooperation with the weather. Very often a situation arises when seedlings prepared for planting in the ground can already be said to outgrow, and there is no way to prepare the soil for planting, since the ground is still quite damp.
Immediately into the open ground
There are a number of folk and scientific and technological technologies for solving this problem. Letβs try to conduct a comparative analysis, what kind of cabbage will turn out in the end, the cultivation of which is carried out in different ways. One option might be the following. Naturally, in the fall, at the disposal of the summer resident there are a number of beds remaining after the harvest with loose, not trodden ground. This is an ideal place where cabbage will be planted in spring, cultivating and caring for it will be greatly simplified. The only aspect that must be observed is to cover the bed with a layer of hay. The fact is that this particular event is capable of ensuring the readiness of the land, including in terms of humidity, for planting. White cabbage, cultivation of which begins in the spring, is planted immediately in the open ground and covered with spanbond. Given the fact that after winter the soil contains enough moisture, it is not necessary to water this seedlings for some time.
The path through the seedling greenhouse
Another option for growing such a valuable product as cabbage, cultivation and care, however, is a little more complicated in this case, is as follows. A seedling greenhouse is created, where in cups, as a rule, half-liter polyethylene, seedlings quietly develop until the end of April. And only after the formation of 4 to 6 full leaves is transplanted into the open ground.
As practice shows, cabbage, cultivation and care of which is carried out in the first way, develops less actively at first, then already a month and a half after planting in open ground it catches up with samples from the second option, moreover, it looks much more healthy in appearance at least in the colors of the foliage. Naturally, cabbage grown in a greenhouse is initially less susceptible to disease and pest attacks. However, if you make economic calculations, you can understand that in the first case, the efficiency is much higher.
Kohlrabi - an alternative to lemon
It is clear that white cabbage interests in this vegetable gardeners do not end there. Very popular is kohlrabi cabbage, the cultivation of which can be carried out, including in the northern regions, which is far from important for our country. What is the secret to the success of this variety of cabbage? Everything is very simple - a huge, more than lemon, vitamin C content. Thus, kohlrabi can be called a panacea during the so-called vitamin hunger - in winter and spring. By and large, hummingbird cabbage, the cultivation of which, in principle, is not a difficult process, can be an alternative to some decorative plant species. It is clear that you can buy inexpensive lemon and a simple lemon in the nearest store, but a self-grown product is more pleasant and dear to the heart, amuses self-esteem and decorates the table.
Have a good harvest, good luck and be happy!
