Tricky - which one? Meaning, Origin and Synonyms

If a trick puts on the clothes of a folk savvy, then we categorically welcome it, and if some cunning villain does an injustice, then we condemn him in every possible way. Therefore, it is time to understand the essence of the content of the adjective.

Origin

So, cunning as a quality of personality can be interpreted in two ways. On the one hand, when some good fellow fools, for example, Koshchei, then we applaud him. And if we see a cunning seller deceiving a buyer, we will not give up our hands to the first.

But believe it or not, but cunning and mind are connected. According to the etymological dictionary, the word is Slavic and comes from chytiti ("hit"). According to the dictionary, the cunning is the one who quickly grasps. Then the word acquired a figurative meaning - “smart, quick-witted”. By the way, the noun has “cunning” and the verb “abduct” one ancestor. And the verb is associated with the original meaning of “quickly grab,” that is, in the most literal sense.

Although, if you think even a little longer, it turns out that the abduction is an extremely difficult matter and there is no way to do without cunning in the modern sense. But, of course, there is no excuse for villains who trade in such things.
