"Green haze" - a grade of black currant of the average fruiting period. It was bred at VNIIS named after I.V. Michurin and obtained by hybridization of the bush "Minai Shmyrev" with Brodtorp. The crossing process was led by Zvyagin T. S., as well as K. D. Sergeev.
Since 2004, the named variety has become widespread, has been entered into the State Register and allowed to plant in the temperate climate of Russia.
In the article we will bring to your attention numerous positive reviews, photos and a description of currants of the "green haze" variety.
Appearance of currants
The description of the โgreen hazeโ variety of black currant, the photo of which you can see in the article, looks like this: a small bush with weak sprawling. The shoots are straight, light green, unrefined. Those shoots that are already numb, acquire a grayish-yellowish color.
Green haze currant buds have the following characteristics:
- in size - medium;
- ovoid, somewhat elongated;
- legs are short in length;
- mainly have a slope from the escape;
- are located one by one;
- the shape of the scar is wedge-shaped, slightly rounded.
The leaves of the plant are standard: 5 pronounced lobes, relatively large, light green matte, have no growths, smooth, may be slightly wrinkled, have bulges.
The leaf plate is inclined downward, concavity is noticeable at the beginning of the plate, along the growth of the central core, the edges are slightly bent and raised. The ends of the lobes are insular. The central lobe is similar in size to the lateral ones, and the upper sections deviate outward. The blades are abundantly sprawling with a right angle between them.
The base of the leaf, like a heart, can be flat with slight flaws. The teeth are of normal size, pointed, short, somewhat curved. The shape is serrated and slightly serrated.
Inflorescences have the usual sizes, in the form reminding a glass. They have a weakly expressed roller, a reddish hue, have an arcuate free location. Currant "green haze" has brushes ranging in size from 6 to 10 cm, in the shape of a cone. More often they are 1-2 pcs., Differ in moderate density and direct focus.
Fruiting and taste varieties
When describing the currant "green haze" (the photo of the variety can be seen in the article), one cannot but mention the berries. They are medium-sized, weighing 1.2-1.6 g, have a rounded shape. Black in color, glisten in the sun. Fruits come off without damaging the inside.
The taste is sweet and sour, universal in type of application. They contain the following useful elements:
- sugar - 12.2%;
- titratable acid - 2.9%;
- ascorbic acid - 192 mg of the substance for every 100 g of the product;
- solids that dissolve in water - 18.9%;
- P-active components - 1198 mg per 100 g;
- pectin - 2%.
This variety tolerates frosts well, can be processed mechanically. On average, 12 tons of fruits are harvested from 1 ha.
According to gardeners, the variety has obvious advantages: large fruits, fast ripening, abundant fruiting, good taste. But at the same time, the bush is often affected by a kidney tick.
Landing Features
As they say, itโs easy to take care of green currant currants - itโs enough to follow a certain algorithm. Planting, top dressing, treatment from pests, protection against diseases are the main actions, as a result of which the bush will successfully grow and bear fruit abundantly.
Experts advise starting planting in the fall, the deadline is the end of October, but you can also land in the spring. In order for the bush to begin and develop, the following minerals and fertilizers can be added to the planting pit (40 x 50 cm):
- humus;
- potassium sulfate or chloride;
- superphosphate;
- wood ash.
The root neck needs to be deepened by 6-7 cm so that additional roots and shoots can appear. After the bush is planted, it needs to be watered and covered with mulch (a protective layer that can have a different composition: sawdust, hay and straw, peat, leaf humus, etc.). Subsequent actions include regular watering, replenishment of mulch under the bush, protection from pests and diseases.
The nuances of care
Photos of currant bushes "green haze" and the description of the variety given by experts confirm that the plants must be mulched, fed and trimmed. It is necessary to carry out regular watering, especially in hot weather, so that the roots do not overheat - blackcurrant does not tolerate it well due to the presence of a superficial root system.
According to reviews, watering significantly affects the size and taste of berries. They become small and acidic without sufficient moisture, so care during flowering and pouring berries consists in regular watering.
So that the roots do not overheat, and the moisture does not evaporate quickly, it is necessary to use mulch. In addition, it saves water and simplifies the process of getting rid of weeds.
A solution of urea, or urea, (dilute 700 g per 10 liters of water) is needed to treat the bushes before budding. After the beginning of the process of their growth, you can process the bushes with a 3% solution of Bordeaux fluid.
You can get rid of the tick and aphid with the help of special preparations: Fitoverma, Aktofita, Akarina, etc.
Fruit bearing problems and solutions
Gardeners often face a decrease in the number of fruits and a deterioration in their quality. This may be due to some factors:
- The bush grows in the shade. Black currants need a large amount of light, in which case the growth of flower buds, rather than leaves, will occur.
- Drought. Bushes become sensitive to lack of moisture and overheating of the root system during the summer heat.
- Excess fertilizer. In this case, the number of berries will be reduced, in contrast to the number of dark green leaves.
- The presence of old branches. On branches older than 4 years, the number and size of berries is much smaller.
- Terry infection. Signs are a purple hue of flowers, lack of berries, thin thick branches. Infected areas must be cut and burned.
As gardeners confirm, careful care of currants "green haze" and compliance with all the rules guarantee a quality crop.
