Tongue-and-groove plate: features of use

The tongue-and-groove plate is a relatively new building material, which has proven itself in the construction of interior partitions. Structures made of gypsum are sufficiently durable, lightweight and very convenient for installation.

Kinds

Today, trade offers the consumer two main types of products such as tongue-and-groove plate. They differ from each other in functionality and composition of materials. This tongue-and-groove plate is moisture resistant (hydrophobized) and ordinary.

This building material is intended for the construction of internal interior partitions, including load-bearing, in industrial and residential buildings, as well as buildings for public use. Provided that either dry mode or normal humidity is installed inside them (SNiP P-3-79).

Specialized application

The tongue-and-groove plate hydrophobized is used in rooms with high humidity. This is regulated by the above building codes (SNiP).

In the manufacture of moisture-resistant plates at the stage of their molding, special additives are added to the initial mass, which significantly reduce water absorption. Visually they are distinguished by green color.

Installation process

Any tongue-and-groove plate has a high vapor and gas permeability. Installation of such structures is carried out by gluing them with special gypsum glue, which significantly reduces the time of work and provides good performance. These types of glue contain combinations of adhesive additives and binders that interact well with the gypsum fiber that forms the backbone of tongue-and-groove boards. This allows to achieve increased strength of the joints and increases the fracture toughness of the entire structure.

Another advantage of this building material is that the walls built from it do not require plastering.

Features

It is necessary to say one more classification of the specified material. These plates are divided into tongue-and-groove plates hollow and solid. The former are almost a quarter lighter than the latter, but have almost the same characteristics, including strength. Hollow core slabs have several advantages:

  • Upon their delivery, the car transporting the specified cargo can take a larger number of hollow plates, which saves on the cost of transportation.
  • The labor productivity of the installation team is growing due to the reduction in the complexity of the work performed.

Hollow slabs are most often used for the construction of a double wall, inside which intra-house communications are placed.

It is recommended that the construction of partitions and walls from GWP (tongue-and-groove slabs) be completed after the construction of the building envelope and load-bearing structures are completed, at the stage of finishing work, before the installation of a clean floor.

A few more advantages that a tongue-and-groove plate has:

  • High resistance to insects and putrefactive bacteria.
  • It is not deformed from the effects of alternating temperature loads.
  • It lends itself well to machining.
  • Increases free space in rooms by reducing the thickness of interior partitions.
  • It can be transported by any transport both in packaged and not in packaged form.
  • The material is non-combustible and does not contain any components harmful to health.
