Installation on the roof of the tides allows you to protect the walls and the basement of the house from rain on them in the summer and melt in the winter and spring. Today, if desired, you can purchase similar systems made of a variety of materials, up to stone and ceramics. However, the most popular among the owners of country houses are plastic roof shimmers, as well as galvanized iron structures . Such models are inexpensive and, if desired, can be installed with your own hands.
System design
Whatever material the roof cast is made of, it is assembled from the following main components:
- Gutter. This is the main structural element. It is he who takes water from the slopes of the roof and discharges it into the drainpipes. A gutter is assembled from individual elements, the length of which, depending on the type of system, can be different.
- Host funnel. This node serves as a transition link between the gutter and the drainpipe. According to the regulations, funnels should be installed for every 10 m of the length of the roof slope. In private houses, therefore, 1-2 funnels are usually mounted on each side of the building.
- Gutters. These are prefabricated elements responsible for diverting water down to specially designed receiver wells, from which it enters trenches and is discharged outside the site.
In addition, the design of the tides includes connecting inserts used during assembly, end decorative caps and mounting brackets. You will also need clamps to fix the drainpipes to the wall of the house.
Design
The question of how to make ebbs on the roof comes down to the correct calculation of all the necessary elements. This procedure is very simple. The length of the gutter should correspond to the total length of the edge of the slopes and gables of the roof with a small margin. Funnels, as already mentioned, are installed at a distance of 10 m from each other. Accordingly, the same amount of drainpipes will be needed. The number of mounting brackets for galvanized structures is calculated on the basis that at least one meter should be used.
How to fasten the hooks
Well, now let's see how do the ebbs for the roof are mounted with your own hands. And start by installing the gutter. In the installation of this element, the most important thing is to choose the right angle. Otherwise, the water will stagnate and freeze in the winter. Typically, in private homes, the tilt angle of the gutter is about 2-3 cm per 10 m. Most often, this is quite enough for the construction to work well.
Perhaps a system with a large angle of inclination will work more efficiently. However, in this case, the drain is unlikely to fit too harmoniously into the exterior of the building. Its horizontalness will be very noticeable. The gutter should be mounted so that the edge of the roof slope covers it no more than a third. Otherwise, the drain will work inefficiently.
Installation of ebbs on the roof is preceded by a device for receiving wells. If these pits are not provided, first of all it is necessary to determine the location of the funnels. They must be installed in such a way that the drained water does not spoil the green spaces and pavement. In the event that the brackets are not attached to the wall, but to the edge of the roof itself, they are installed before the installation of the roofing material. In this case, the hook plates will need to be bent at the desired angle.
Plastic roof shimmers are mounted in compliance with certain rules. Under the gutters in this case, the mounting hooks are installed in increments of the order of 60 cm from each other. In this case, two brackets will need to be used near the funnels (at a distance of about 2 cm on both sides). Also, the hooks in this case should be located at a distance of not more than 4 cm from the joints of the gutter segments.
The first brackets are mounted first. They are screwed with screws taking into account the inclination of the gutter. Next, a cord is stretched between them. It will serve as a guide for the installation of intermediate hooks. For each bracket, two self-tapping screws are used.
Gutter mounting
In structures such as galvanized roof taps, gutter sections are butt-mounted. In some cases, it is allowed to install them and overlap. The joints at the bottom are closed with special snap-on pads. When installing plastic gutters, a small expansion gap should be left between the segments. The bottom plate is pre-coated with glue from the inside and also snaps into place at the junction of the gutter. If necessary, the segments are shortened using a hacksaw for metal. Galvanized edges should be cleaned from burrs.
Installation of roof taps continues with the installation of end caps. In galvanized gutters, their fixing edge is simply bent, put into place and the edge folded back. On plastic, smear the edges with glue and snap.
Funnel mount
By installing a galvanized tint for the roof, holes are cut through the corresponding sections of the gutter for these elements. Then the funnels are latched upward. In plastic systems, the installation procedure is slightly different. In this case, the funnels are the first to attach. Pieces of the gutter are inserted into them from above from two sides without gluing. Thus, they serve as additional compensators for the expansion of the material.
Installation of a drainpipe
They continue to collect roof tides with their own hands by assembling and installing vertical elements. Mount sewage pipes in several stages:
- The first knee of the drain is connected to the funnel below.
- Next, a piece of the length necessary for connection with the second elbow is sawn off from the pipe with a hacksaw for metal . It should be such that the vertical pipe passes at a distance of about 2-3 cm from the wall.
- Then the first vertical segment is installed on the lower knee. First on the walls you need to mount fasteners with clamps for pipes.
- Then put on all the other segments of the pipe. As adapters, special couplings are usually used. Each pipe segment must have at least two retaining clamps.
- At the final stage, a discharge element is attached from below.
The final stage
So, how to make the ebbs on the roof, you now know. At the final stage, the gutter system will need to be checked for operability. To do this, pour a little water into it. If it is allocated effectively, everything is in order. Otherwise, carry out corrective work.
How to make a drain yourself
For small houses, the ebb for the roof can be completely done by yourself. For this, galvanized pipes with a diameter of at least 160 mm will be needed. For the manufacture of gutters, they are simply cut in half. Clamps, brackets and butt pads are made of sheet steel. From it, you can also bend the gutter itself. In this case, it will have a square section. Of course, in terms of decorative qualities, such systems are significantly inferior to purchased ones. However, their function is performed very well.
Some craftsmen make the ebb for the roof of their house, even from ordinary plastic bottles. For gutters, they are also cut in half. Vertical pipes are assembled by cutting a piece from each bottle at a certain distance from the neck and inserting them tightly into each other. Oddly enough, similar systems work, judging by the reviews of their owners, they are very good and last a long time. However, they look, of course, not too beautiful.
Operation of the drainage system
Any such design, of course, needs some care. At least a couple of times a year, the gutter should be cleaned of accumulated sludge and dirt. In the event that trees grow on the site, this should be done. Otherwise, the system will become clogged with fallen leaves. To save yourself from this procedure, you can purchase special brush filters for the gutter. They are laid along the whole slope. Water passes freely through long bristles, but debris - especially large - does not enter the gutter.
As you can see, assembling such structures as roof taps on their own is an entirely feasible event. The design of these systems are simple. If you have time and in case of financial difficulties, you can make a drain directly from scratch with your own hands.
