What are floor leveling mixes?

Mixtures for bulk floors - this is a great alternative to the usual concrete screed. Depending on the composition of the dry mix for leveling the floor , three main goals are achieved: rough leveling, finishing, as well as leveling surfaces on the floors of garages and industrial premises where no additional coatings are used.

floor leveling mixes
Rough leveling is carried out by using means with low fluidity; such floor leveling mixtures are designed to work with a very uneven surface.

For final leveling, compositions with higher fluidity are used, which, when spreading, create a perfectly smooth surface. Mixtures for leveling floors with a high degree of fluidity are used after rough leveling, which makes the floor perfectly smooth. Such compositions are used for surfaces that will be coated with roll materials, such as linoleum or carpet.

Bulk floors used without coating are classified according to the room in which they will be used:

  • Strong mechanical loads up to 10 tons. The thickness of the screed should be about 6 mm, the mixture should be as wear-resistant as possible, resistant to water and sun.
  • Light and medium mechanical stress. Floor layer - up to 2 mm.

Material types

Mixtures for leveling the floor are of several types:

  • Plaster - used for work inside and out.
  • Cement - used for screeds inside the building. Compositions of special cement with fiber additives form a mixture for leveling wooden floors.
  • Epoxy mixtures are made on the basis of epoxy resins, coatings of this kind have chemical resistance, they are solid and durable, but low elastic, which can affect high impact loads.
  • Acrylic mixtures are made on the basis of methyl methacrylic resins, designed exclusively for industrial premises, such a mass hardens in 2 hours, work can be performed at any temperature. The disadvantage is difficulty at work and abrasive instability.
  • Polyurethane coatings are hard and elastic, perfectly suitable for constant vibration and floor mobility, but do not withstand chemical influences.

Work rules

  • The self-leveling floor is applied to a clean surface without any elements that can reduce adhesion.
  • The base on which the mixture is applied should not have holes or crevices to prevent leakage of the solution.
  • The primer is necessarily applied to any base, if the base under the self-leveling floor quickly absorbs moisture, then the primer must be repeated after 24 hours.
  • For an even distribution of the mixture, special beacons are used to level the floor.
  • Fill the surface with stripes or squares, each subsequent fragment is poured so that the edge of the previous one does not have time to dry.

The advantage of the bulk floor is its simple installation, which is why it is so widespread in construction work.
