Connecting the toilet to the sewer with your own hands is not at all as complicated as it might seem at first glance. When performing it, you need to do only three things correctly - to give stability to the toilet itself, connect the outlet to the sewer riser and connect the water supply to the drain tank. Hanging plumbing fixtures are installed a little differently - on the frame. However, this work is also quite feasible without the involvement of specialists.
New plumbing: installing a toilet
Installation of acquired plumbing is carried out in several stages:
- Old equipment is being dismantled - the tank and the “seat" itself.
- If necessary, the board is changed.
- A new toilet is being installed. At the same time, a connection is made to the sewer system.
- The tank is mounted and connected to the water supply.
Preparatory work
Before you begin to perform such an operation as installing and connecting the toilet to the sewer, you should prepare the bathroom itself. Previously, it is necessary to take out all the furnishings that can interfere with the installation work. Also, to prevent leakage of water and flooding of neighbors, common taps are closed.
Dismantling the old tank
First of all, disconnect the drain tank from the water pipe. Typically, tanks are connected to it by a flexible metal hose. If there is a valve at the outlet from the pipe to the drain tank, it must also be closed. Then, in turn, the nut fixing the hose to the water supply is unscrewed, and then the fastening nut to the tank nozzle.
How to remove an old toilet
After the tank is turned off, proceed to the dismantling of the plumbing fixture. Previously, the release of the old toilet bowl is disconnected from the outlet pipe of the sewer riser. The dismantling method depends on which method was used for fastening. This may be the connection of the toilet to the sewer corrugation or coupling. In any case, difficulties with their dismantling should not arise.
There are two holes on the sides of the toilet base, from which you need to unscrew the bolts. After the equipment is disconnected, it is set aside and the condition of the embedded board is checked. If it is damaged or rotten, it should be replaced. To do this, remove the old board and throw it away. The niche is thoroughly cleaned, if necessary, expanded, poured with a cement mixture and a new board is pressed into it, corresponding to the size of the "foot" and the base of the toilet bowl.
In the event that the bathroom floor is tiled, both under the old and new plumbing fixtures should put a rag (so as not to scratch the coating).
Installing a toilet: instructions
After the old equipment is dismantled, proceed with the installation of new. Holes are drilled in the embedded board - at a distance corresponding to the holes for the fasteners in the base of the toilet bowl.
A plumbing fixture is placed on it and screwed with long screws. The holes in the board should have a diameter slightly smaller than that of the rods. Screw caps can be covered with special plastic or steel decorative pads.
Basic rules for connecting to a sewer pipe
At the moment, only three varieties of toilets are produced: with a horizontal outlet, oblique and vertical. The bell of the layering from the riser in ordinary city apartments most often comes out at an angle. The toilet is connected to the sewer depending on the type of its output and the position of the pipe outlet. At the same time, different elements are used as adapters - cuffs, pipes or corrugations.
Rules for installing devices with outlet at an angle and horizontal
Since toilets with a horizontal outlet or oblique are most often used, we will consider the connection diagram in more detail. If the outlet of the bowl and the bell of the pipe are aligned, plastic pipes are used for connection. In case of small inconsistencies, eccentric cuffs are used. Minor discrepancies are usually caused by the displacement of the toilet when attached to a board or tile. With serious deviations, corrugation is used.
Previously, as already mentioned, the toilet is installed (with an oblique outlet or with a horizontal one) on the embedded board. Then proceed to the actual connection. The release itself is smeared with minium and wrapped with a resin strand so that its end remains 0.5-1 cm long. If it is tucked in, it can become an additional cause of blockages in the future. Next, a connecting element is put on top - corrugation or coupling. The opposite end is smeared with sealant and inserted into the socket of the sewer pipe.
Health Check
Further, regardless of whether the toilet was connected to the sewerage with a corrugation, cuff or pipe, the drain is checked for leaks. It is very easy to do. It is necessary to pour water into the bucket (since the cold faucet is closed, it is possible to hot, but it is better to do this in advance) and carefully pour it into the toilet, while observing whether there is a leak and a socket in the junction. If everything is done correctly, a similar problem is unlikely to arise.
You can really start using the toilet no earlier than 4 days later. It is precisely this period that the sealant needs for final solidification.
Accession of a tank to a water supply system
So, how to connect the toilet to the sewer, we have figured out. After this procedure is completed, proceed to install the drain tank. Its fastening is made according to the instructions attached by the manufacturer to the plumbing device itself. In the next step, you will need to connect the tank to the water supply. In this case, everything is simple. For connection, you can use the old hose by screwing it to the drain tank and the pipe outlet with cold water.
Tighten the nuts tightly, but try not to break the threads. Both dismantling and installation usually use a simple adjustable wrench. After the hose is screwed on, open the water and check the connection points for leaks. If there are any, it is most likely a matter of the old hose. It will just need to be replaced, since it is inexpensive.
Installation of a toilet bowl without a embedded board
Sometimes the toilets are not installed on the board, but directly on the tile. In this case, holes for fasteners are simply drilled in it. Next, a linoleum gasket is laid on top, cut out according to the shape of the cross section of the toilet base. The latter should be glued to the floor on the sealant. However, after the device is installed in a similar way, you need to sit on it and swing. If it is unstable, you will still have to remove the tile under it and install a wooden flat base. Connecting the toilet to the sewer in this case is performed in the usual manner.
Hanging Plumbing
Recently, many apartment owners prefer to install models in bathrooms that are attached not to the floor, but to the wall. Such toilets look more stylish and modern than ordinary. In addition, this solution makes it easier to clean the toilet. In this case, the hostess does not need to wash the toilet bowl foot and its base. Just wipe the floor under it.
Of course, connecting the toilet to the riser in the usual way in this case will not work. All sewer pipes will be clearly visible, which is extremely unaesthetic. Therefore, hanging toilets are hung on a special steel frame. Next, they carry out an eyeliner and sheathe the frame with plasterboard sheets, thus arranging a false wall covering all communications.
Assembly diagram
Well, now let's take a closer look at how to connect the toilet to the sewer. Frames for such plumbing fixtures are sold separately. Their design provides for special brackets and screws, with which you can adjust the position of the frame on the wall and floor. In another way, the frame is also called "installation."
So, the installation diagram of the toilet in this case is as follows:
- A drain tank is attached to the frame.
- Marking under the frame. Usually it is attached in two places to the wall and in two to the floor.
- The tank is connected to the water supply.
- Next, the frame is fastened with a check of its horizontal and vertical level.
- A decorative box of plasterboard sheets is mounted.
- The toilet itself is installed.

Basic rules for installing the frame
Before attaching the frame, check that you correctly hung the tank. Ultimately, the drain button should be located at a height of approximately 98.5-100 cm above the floor. The toilet itself, which will be installed later, is at a height of 40-42 cm. The sewer pipe is approximately 20 cm. You can also select the desired position after installation by adjusting the screws to the floor.
The wall is fixed in such a way that there is a small gap between it and the drain tank (about 1.5 cm).
Water connection
This procedure is no different from installing ordinary toilets. The only thing is that flexible metal hoses are not recommended in this case. The fact is that they quite often fail. If we are talking about an ordinary tank, it will not be difficult to make a replacement. However, removing the hose from under the false wall behind the hanging toilet will be very problematic. Therefore, in this case, it is better to use an eyeliner from a piece of plastic pipe. The design of the flush cisterns for hanging toilets is usually such that it can be connected if desired, either from above or from the side.
Before starting the sheathing of the frame with drywall, you should also fit the sewer pipes (pipe) to the toilet outlet - using the same pipe or, in extreme cases, couplings.
Drywall
Before installing the decorative box, pins are screwed to the frame, on which later the toilet itself will need to be attached. To make the base of the false wall, a moisture-resistant drywall with a thickness of at least 1 cm should be used. When cutting it, you need to provide holes for the drain button, corrugation and pipes. On top of the box is usually trimmed with ceramic tiles.
Toilet installation
It is possible to mount the plumbing device itself no earlier than two weeks after the tile is laid. The withdrawal of the toilet is fastened to the socket of the sewer pipe by a pipe. The very same "seat" is tightened with nuts on the pins. The joint between it and the false wall tile is coated with silicone sealant.
At the final stage, you should drain the water to check the connection of the toilet with the sewer for leaks. On this, the installation of plumbing can be considered completed.
As you can see, the procedure for installing the toilet is quite simple. Starting assembly, you will see for yourself. The main thing is to carefully seal all the joints and prevent leakage through the pipe or hose of the drain tank. Of course, the toilet itself, in the event that it is floor mounted, should stand upright without swinging.
