Today, brick has gained serious popularity among consumables in
construction of houses and individual elements. Often there are beautiful houses that are laid out and lined with brick. All this is due to the practicality of the material -
masonry walls made of bricks can last for more than one century, if it is laid out on a professional level. The profession of a mason is hard work, it’s stupid to think that you can master the whole system in one day.
If there is a desire, then learning will be easy. You need to understand how brickwork is done with your own hands. The master’s lessons can be the impetus after which you can more accurately master science, and lay the brick yourself.
General concepts and terms of masonry
The implementation of brickwork has a whole system of technological processes. As in any other kind of work, it has its own terminology, which for a person who never encounters masonry is not always clear. Brick walls can be made of several types of building blocks. It can be:
- single brick;
- one and a half brick;
- double brick.
The dimensions of the brick are almost the same, for example, all three of the above
length and width is standard 250x120 mm, only the height indicator changes - single 65 mm, one and a half - 88 mm, double height - 130 mm. The brick has three planes, each of which has its own name of "spoon", "bed" and "poke". Let's define these terms:
- A poke is a short line, in other words an end part. Spread with a poke - it means to lay the brick with the back to the outside of the wall.
- The bed is that face on which the brick is laid on the mortar.
- A spoon is the long side of a brick.
At the initial stage, when it is planned to lay brick walls, a tool is prepared. To perform the masonry, you will need construction tools of the following type:
- Construction trowel.
- Lace mooring.
- Level.
- Pickaxe.
- Stitching for facing.
- Plumb line.
The process of building a brick wall
Tools prepared, you can move on to the practical part. So, the laying of brick walls begins with the preparation of the surface. This is usually the foundation - you need it
clean from dirt. If there are large irregularities, it is recommended to level with mortar or concrete.
When the square is ready for work, then the corners start from two sides. In most cases, start no more than five rows. Angles are checked for horizontal and vertical deviation. After their preparation in the corners, a lace is stretched to the height of one row. Then they spread it on the base and lay the brick "bed" exactly on the cord, then repeat the steps.
There are different types of masonry. Basically they are called similarly to the faces of the brick itself. Three main types are: spoon type of masonry, bonded and spooned with the use of backing. The brick wall has a system of dressings, which are transverse, longitudinal and vertical. Each type of dressing is responsible for its functionality, allowing you to get the rigidity of the entire wall.
