Penoplex is an innovative heat-insulating material. It is not hygroscopic, resistant to various temperatures, fire and climatic influences. Thermal insulation material is also used as soundproofing. It does not contain toxic substances.
How to glue foam sheets together
The modern building materials market is replete with various models of foam. Sheets vary in stiffness and density. When the penoplex is attached to the penoplex, it is these characteristics that are taken into account.
In this case, the appropriate adhesive composition is selected. Fastening penopleks to penopleks is carried out using any type of glue. An important nuance when choosing glue is the lack of acetone and gasoline in the composition.
Fastening penopleks to penopleks can be done using a special solution. It is prepared using a gravitational mixer or a drill with a variable speed indicator. In this case, use a whisk nozzle.
The prepared solution should be used within 2 hours after preparation.
The fastening of the foam to the foam implies the presence of a distance between the sheets of not more than 2 mm. In the event of gaps, they are filled with strips of insulation or with foam for installation.
Wall mount
Fastening the foam to the concrete wall creates difficulty due to the low adhesion of the thermal insulation material. To increase the strength of installation work allows the use of glue and dowels.
Fastening the foam to the wall involves preliminary cleaning of the latter. Dust and dirt should be removed from the walls. Those places that are affected by the fungus should be treated with a special antiseptic. Irregularities and cracks are covered with putty.
Before starting work, the surface should be primed.
Drywall Mount
GVL (gypsum fiber sheet) is a well-known drywall, which is widely used for repairs.
There are two ways to fasten GVL to penoplex. It can be glued and also strengthened by installing a frame made of metal or wood. A wood frame should be several centimeters behind the wall. The space between the slats is filled with sheets of foam. The gaps between the plates of the insulating material are closed by means of foam for mounting. Then drywall is attached to the wooden blocks.
Warming with foam and drywall is a fairly common method used on loggias, balconies, basements and garages. Foam sheets coated with drywall should not be used in high rooms (wall height greater than 2.5 m). The frame should be firmly stitched.
Fixing drywall to foam with dowels is the best solution. At low wall heights, glue mounting is an acceptable option.
How to fix penoplex to the grid
How to fix the mesh on foam? If you rely on the main requirement of thermal insulation systems, the use of fasteners made of metal is not recommended, since the resulting cold bridges will reduce all efforts to zero. So where is the way out? How is the mesh fastened to foam, if the metal is unacceptable?
If the heat-protective layer is mounted on a surface where there is no movement of the structure, then the mesh is fastened to the heat-insulating material by means of an adhesive mass. It should be drowned in glue or a second coat applied.
If fastening is carried out in places where there will be a movement, then the use of dowels or thermal panels coated with polymer cement is recommended.
A reinforced layer is created as follows:
- A uniform layer of glue is applied to the surface of the foam sheet, the width of which is 1 m, by means of a notched trowel.
- Reinforced material should be applied to a fresh layer of glue and drown with a smooth spatula.
- Before fixing the insulation on the opening, it is necessary to glue the facade mesh by wrapping it 15 cm behind the wall.
- Foam sheets are attached to the glued mesh so that they protrude from the wall to the thickness of the insulation material. An additional 3 mm (reinforcement thickness) is also added.
- Planks of wood are placed under the sheets of foam. They create an expanding seam.
- The stucco grid is glued onto the foam (be sure to wrap it around the corner and glue it 15 cm behind the wall).
- It is recommended that the outside corners of the building and slopes be fixed with a perforated aluminum profile .
- Before applying the plaster, corners should be sanded to ensure even plastering.
Tile fastening
Penoplex and tile complement each other. The tile ensures the safety of the foam from destruction, and the foam itself - the density of the tile. The tile is fixed to the foam by means of glue. The best choice is the adhesive company Ceresit CM117.
The glue recipe is printed on the label. The thickness of the adhesive should not be greater than that specified in the annotation. Glued from the bottom corner of the surface.
Before attaching the tile to the foam, the surface should be prepared. For this purpose, a mesh for reinforcement is taken, as well as a special mixture for plaster on foam.
The plaster is thoroughly mixed. The mixture is applied to the foam sheets with a spatula.
Reinforcement follows. The mesh is recessed in the glue. The mesh-pressed layer is trimmed with a spatula. A layer for alignment is not required. It will be enough of the one that is available. The main thing is that this layer be aligned under the tile.
Tile adhesive is selected taking into account the texture of the exterior. For example, Ceresit CM-17 glue is suitable.
How penoplex is attached to the base
The basement of the house is located underground. It is strongly influenced by natural factors. In case of insulation of the base, you provide it with protection against destruction and deformation. As a heater, penoplex is the best suited. This material has its advantages. After all, it perfectly withstands temperature extremes. It does not absorb water. If there is no moisture in the material, then there is nothing to freeze and damage the base. Fastening penoplex to the base is quite easy.
Before applying a layer of glue, the surface should be primed. This will provide adhesion. Plates of foam are fastened tightly. The gap between them should be minimal. Undoubtedly, the use of only glue for fastening is not enough, since in this case the process of finishing the basement with tiles or decorative stone is complicated.
Together with the tiles, a mesh for reinforcement based on plastic, fiberglass or metal can be attached to the foam. An inexpensive metal mesh can be used.
After the foam has been fixed, wait until the glue has completely dried.
The surface of the heat-insulating material is primed with a mesh for reinforcement. Then the main layer of plaster is applied. After it dries, the surface is primed again. Then a topcoat is applied or finishing materials are laid.
How to attach penoplex to the ceiling
There are two methods for attaching the foam to the ceiling: glue or dowels. Often during installation both methods are used.
In the first case, the adhesive is applied by means of a notched trowel. The sheet is pressed against the ceiling. In the second case, a dowel with a plastic hat is driven into a pre-prepared hole. It is necessary to achieve a tight entry of the dowel into the surface of the insulation.
On one sheet of foam with standard dimensions of 120x60 cm, two dowels will be required. Slots at the joints are sealed with foam.
Then vapor barrier material is applied . It is fixed using self-tapping screws or double-sided tape. This provides thermal protection of the room, as well as reliable sound insulation.
After the final installation of the foam, they begin to finish the ceiling.
How to fix penoplex to the floor
For high-quality thermal insulation of the floor by means of foam, sheets of brand 35 should be used. Warming can be done quickly enough.
For work you will need:
- foam sheets;
- material for waterproofing;
- cement mixture;
- level;
- mixture for screed.
Concrete floor is checked for defects. All irregularities should be eliminated. Cracks and potholes are cemented. If the basis of the floor is ordinary soil, then it is covered with rubble and sand, and then rammed and poured with concrete. With the final drying of the surface, they begin to warm the floor.
The floor is covered with a film for waterproofing. Adjacent pieces of film overlap and fasten with tape.
Then the foam is fixed to the floor. The sheets fit tightly. Work starts from the corner of the room.
In places where pipes or risers will exit, penopleks are cut out. Then a special mixture is prepared for the screed. Penoplex is poured with a layer of 5 cm. You can put any floor covering on a dry screed.
How to attach penoplex to a vertical foundation
This method is applicable both in the construction of the foundation, and in already erected buildings. Dig the foundation to the depth of its laying.
The foundation is cleaned of a layer of dirt and leveled by cement.
Next, glue for foam is diluted. If the base of the foundation is not even, then the insulation material can be put deeper.
Glue is applied on the plate in dots. Then the foam is fastened to the foundation. Each next plate is attached when aligning the mounting groove.
In the case of fixing several layers of heat-insulating material, it is placed in a checkerboard pattern. The second layer is attached to the same glue using a similar technology.
How to insulate a foundation based on plates
The work is carried out in the following order:
- The area under the foundation is marked and the top layer of soil is removed to a depth that is provided for by the project. The bottom is flat. The last 30 cm are removed by hand. The prepared site is covered with sand and rammed. A temporary formwork is made and the base is made of concrete. Base reinforcement is not required.
- After the concrete hardens, foam foam is laid on it. The mounting groove is aligned. Sheets are fastened without gaps. A thick film of cellophane is applied to the foam. Joints of strips are glued with adhesive tape. The film serves in waterproofing. It prevents the penetration of concrete mass through the joints of the foam.
- Formwork, reinforcement and foundation pouring are made from slabs. After the foundation hardens, the formwork is removed. The foundation is exposed to additional thermal insulation. Penoplex is laid on the side walls.
The sole of the strip foundation is insulated with the same method
Isolon Mount
The Isolon is attached to the foam by means of mounting foam or liquid nails. The result is the same.
Double-sided tape will not provide the proper strength. Liquid nails are the best option, since penoplex belongs to the category of porous materials.
It is also possible to use a mechanical method. If there is a wooden structure under the foam plastic sheets, you can use press washers (self-tapping screws with a large head).
If the base is concrete or brick, then resort to the use of dowels, which are attached to the wall, passing a layer of foam. However, this method has less efficiency, since each self-tapping screw or dowel creates a cold bridge in the layer of thermal insulation material.
How to fix the crate to the foam
The base of the lathing is a beam of wood or an aluminum profile, which corresponds to the thickness of the insulating material. The fastening of the crate to the foam involves fitting sheets of heat-insulating material under the cells of the crate. This makes the job easier. For this purpose, the bars should be fastened at a distance that is 2 cm less than the sheet width. When the frame of the beam is made, proceed to thermal insulation.
Plates are cut in length. Glue is applied to the back surface of the sheet. Penoplex is inserted into the cells of the crate. All gaps are closed by means of polyurethane foam. Excess pieces are cut off.
Fiberglass reinforcing mesh is glued on top of the foam. Then proceed to the finish.
