Spiral staircase and its advantages

Any person wants to bring as much comfort and charm as possible to their home. But, in our modern age, elegance gives way to functionality. One of the objects of the house, which combines these two qualities, is a spiral staircase. There are a great many of them, in all colors and sizes.

One of the advantages of screw stairs is its compactness: it can easily be installed in a small room. As for the type of stairs and the materials used, everything is limited only by your imagination and financial capabilities.

Like any structure that is regularly subjected to stress, a spiral staircase must be, first of all, strong and reliable. So that you can safely move around it and, importantly, conveniently, without fear of hitting your head on the upper steps.

Any spiral staircase, regardless of size, consists of three main parts. This is a railing that does not allow a person to fall from the stairs, steps and racks, to which, in fact, the first two elements are attached. Small, simple spiral staircases are made of wood, usually hardwood, for example, beech. In this case, the design will last much longer.

If you have at least a little experience with wood, then you can make the steps yourself. It is worth paying attention that at spiral staircases the shape of the steps is wedge-shaped. The length of the steps varies depending on the dimensions of the structure: as a rule, it is 100 mm in the inner part and 200 mm in the middle. About why this form is chosen, just below.

As in any staircase, the main load will be taken by the steps. Therefore, of course, there can be no talk of choosing soft wood species, such as pine, for their manufacture. Knots should also be excluded, since they violate the integrity of the structure of the wood and the step may crack at the most inopportune moment. This is where it is worth mentioning why the wedge-shaped form of the steps is used: firstly, it will be more convenient to walk along such a staircase, as if you would walk straight all the time, without thinking how many degrees you would need to turn to the next step. Secondly, this will give the staircase construction greater stability by reducing the lever that tries to break the step under the weight of a person from the rack.

First of all, it is necessary to make holes on the inner edge of the steps, with a diameter of about 50 mm, for fixing them to the rack. The width of the outer edge of the steps should be such that a railing can be fixed on them. To the stand (usually a metal pipe), a flange with four holes is attached at one end. On the other - a threaded connection.

A standard place for installing a spiral staircase is the corner of the walls under the opening. The average height of the steps, relative to each other - from 200 to 250 mm. When choosing a height, make sure that the upper (extreme) step of the ladder is flush with the floor of the second floor.

The work is completed by the fastening of the railing rack to the steps. It is believed that composite railings are more convenient in terms of installation. You can also use decorative mounts for a wide part of the steps. Usually advised to use an adhesive for handrails and steps.

This completes the installation work. If you are careful and attentive at work, then a spiral staircase will serve you for many years.
