Install the door of a standard size: how to do it?

If you decide to install the interior doors yourself, we advise you to immediately be patient, since in this matter a lot depends on impeccably accurate following all the instructions. If you do something wrong, even a standard-sized door will not fit in a no less standard door frame . Therefore, we strongly advise you to carefully read our article and only after that start work.

Before installing the doors, roughing of the openings should be carried out. Simply put, they must be cleaned of the remnants of the old plaster, paint and wallpaper, aligned and putty. If you do everything right, then a standard-sized door will be much easier to install.

Very important! All “wet” work must be completed before installation, and by that time all surfaces must simply be dry. Wood is a whimsical material, and from dampness it is almost guaranteed to “lead” it. If you plan to do something with floor coverings, you must do this again before starting door work, otherwise you will be tormented by determining the height of the thresholds and other similar parameters.

Mount racks

Even a standard-sized door on a crookedly mounted box will look ridiculous. Moreover, even with the slightest unevenness, you will have to open the door almost with a kick. By the way, it is precisely to this operation that the proverb about seven dimensions and one cut fits perfectly. But you don’t need to be afraid: if you do it carefully and do not rush, then you will succeed.

Before starting work, it would be nice to buy a miter saw: with it you can make door frames with perfect accuracy. If there is no money for such an instrument, nevertheless scrape the cash for the purchase of a hacksaw with a small tooth for the highest quality and even cuts. Immediately measure the required height of the rack, focusing on its inner surface. We saw off the ends at an angle of 45 degrees, set the upper jumper and threshold (if necessary). We fasten the structure with screws and try on the opening. If everything is in order, and a standard-sized door comes up to your box, then we continue to work.

Hinge mounting

Care should be taken when installing the hinges. We measure 20 cm from the top and bottom of the box (on the side you need), after which we apply loops to the designated areas and draw a contour with a pencil. The cut-in is best done with a milling cutter, but in the vast majority of cases you only have to dream about it, so the chisel sometimes remains the only reliable tool. Try to squeeze the seats under them as evenly as possible: the standard dimensions of the wooden doors suggest that the hinge will be completely recessed at the end. Otherwise, there may be problems with opening and closing them.

Hitch

The box is inserted into the opening, after which it is pre-mounted with screws and spacers. With maximum accuracy, we level it according to the building level, after which we finally put it on the screws. We fasten the hinges to the jamb. We eliminate all the defects found, after which with mounting foam (do not overdo it with its quantity), fill up the remaining cracks.
