types of foundations are under increasing pressure from new promising construction technologies. A great example is the foundation of the "Swedish plate".
The basic principle
The technology of its laying is interesting in that it combines a monolithic concrete slab, a warm floor system and utilities, also laid in the very thickness of the base. Thanks to this approach, you can as soon as possible get not only a warm, but also a perfectly flat floor, almost ready to lay any floor covering. That is why the foundation of the "Swedish stove", the price of which is relatively low, is becoming increasingly popular in our conservative country.
How does the styling process go
- The topsoil is carefully removed , and the area of the exposed area should be slightly larger than the size of the future building.
- A layer of sand about 15 cm thick is poured, after which it is moistened and thoroughly compacted.
- A drainage system and all required engineering communications are laid in advance.
- Then lay a layer of gravel, the thickness of which should also be at least 15 cm.
- Foam polystyrene and formwork are laid, which form the side base of the house.
- After that, 0.2 m of extruded polystyrene foam is laid.
- After making sure that the base is even, install special supports on which the reinforcing base of the future foundation is laid.
- The pipes of the warm floor are mounted there, after which they are pumped with air.
- Concrete is poured on them , the thickness of which should be about 0.1 m.
Not an exception, the “Swedish cooker” foundation raises many doubts and questions from experts who are accustomed to working only with time-tested technologies. For example, a lot of questions just cause the concrete thickness of only 10 cm, while in the classic version this figure is 0.3 m minimum. To some extent, these fears are justified, since before erecting the structure, it is mandatory to check the characteristics of the soil in the area on which you plan to build your house. In general, the foundation of the "Swedish stove", the technology of which is described above, is perfect for most of the
panel houses and buildings made of timber.
In addition, our builders are very doubtful about the very polystyrene foam that fits into the base of the entire structure. Our experts do not understand how the foundation of the "Swedish plate" can stand in our weather conditions. We will not deceive you: at the moment there is simply no long-term statistics on how such houses will behave after 50 years in our climate. But the Finnish climate is in many ways similar to ours, and the buildings have been going through the sixth decade.
In addition, the foundation of the "Swedish stove" involves some nuances that you must decide for yourself in advance. So, how comfortable is the complete concreting of the sewer and water system in terms of their maintainability? How comfortable will you live when you see snowdrifts right above the window? After all, we don’t have the usual base, and the house adjoins the earth much lower. In addition, the issue of such construction in the absence of gasification of the site is controversial: in the future, it will be necessary to solve the problem of breaking holes for pipes.
