Installation of windows in a wooden house requires a casing system or a pigtail. Casing should be understood as a wooden box located between the window and the wall of the house, which is mounted before the installation of the window.
Thus, casing is necessary because:
- its lower part plays the role of a windowsill;
- no need to make slopes;
- platband can be fixed easily and quickly;
- gives additional insulation to the window perimeter.
Preparatory work
Before installing wooden windows with your own hands, you need to carry out some work, namely:
- Prepare an opening. If the height of the window unit exceeds 1000 mm, then the width of the opening is cut out 20 mm more than the width of the casing. Otherwise, this figure is 50 mm.
- Insert end key. To do this, at the end of the log you need to cut a groove.
- Close up the gaps formed between the casing and the window opening. The casing assembly process is carried out using self-tapping screws. Further, using the level, the box is installed in the opening and fixed to the keys and the lower log. The resulting lower and side gaps are sealed with sealant, and the upper space with mineral wool.
- Install the window block in the casing. In order to protect against weather conditions, a self-expanding vapor-permeable sealing tape is laid outside the entire perimeter .
- Finishing work. At this stage, the installation of windows in a wooden house provides for the closure of all the gaps between the window block and the casing inside. For these purposes, you can use fillets. The resulting space between the walls of the wooden house and the casing is eliminated due to the installation of platbands.
Modern wooden windows
It has long been accepted that wood is the safest and most environmentally friendly building material. That is why today houses in timber and wooden windows are in great demand among the population. The main advantages are:
- Naturalness and environmental friendliness. Wood is an environmentally friendly natural material. Installation of windows in a wooden house is carried out from modern wooden copies. For this, only carefully selected wood is used. At the end of window assembly, its frame is treated with a special substance that prevents aging and damage from various pests.
- Thermal insulation. Modern wooden windows have low thermal conductivity. The frame of such windows is always warm, even if the temperature is below freezing.
- Air exchange. Since the tree "breathes", therefore, a wooden frame is a guarantee of a natural level of humidity in the house.
- Soundproofing. It is common for modern wooden windows to have increased sound insulation.
- Fire protection. Everyone knows that wood is a fire-resistant organic raw material. Since the wood retains strength and does not melt in the fire, the installation of windows in a wooden house implies the installation of modern wooden options. Indeed, this material does not emit chemical harmful substances during combustion and the so-called “protective layer” forms on it, preventing the penetration of fire deeper than the upper layer.
- Durability. Wood has a long service life. Wooden houses and windows are durable structures that withstand various temperature extremes.
